"Highland is a safe, relatively quiet neighborhood in St Paul. It is a little boring though, and could use better bike lanes and trails. "

"They would like the neighborhood walks. People are very polite about keeping dogs separated, and people like your dog. St. Kate’s allows leashed dogs on campus, and they have a nice campus walk."

"What I want parents to know...? Lots of multi family residents. Sometimes you can smell weed outside but never in doors. Look your cars all the time. 2sec head turn will be the last you see it. "

"I always see neighbors walking there dogs. This neighborhood definitely welcomes dogs. I have not seen any issues with neighbors not picking up after dogs either. "

"I drive every working day from Highland to Golden Valley. I leave at about 9am and return at about 7:00 pm. At those times it takes about 20 minutes to drive 12 miles on I94, and I-394 or MN-55."

"I have lived here for +5 years. Quiet neighborhood. No crime. Mix of families with children, empty nesters and retirees. Walk along the Mississippi and see deer, bald eagles, wild turkeys and the occasional coyote."

"I've lived in Highland for 31 years. It's a safe, walkable neighborhood of friendly people. Centrally located to everything. Definitely worth the premium we pay (higher $/sq. ft., higher taxes than most burbs) to live here."

"It's a great neighborhood. The people are friendly. There are great schools in the neighborhood for children to attend. There are plenty of stores that are in walking distance so a vehicle is not necessary. "

"I've lived in this neighborhood for three years and love it. Folks are friendly and it's easy to walk most places. Rent is a bit high, but it's a sought after area, so that makes sense. Lots of big trees line the streets and they change beautifully throughout the seasons!"

"Excellent location in the Twin Cities. Great public transit, walk to dozens of shops, etc., 7 minutes drive to MSP airport, good sense of community."

"Pros: Beautiful neighborhood. Upper end housing stock. Multiple parks in the area. Golf course, disc golf, fishing nearby, walking paths, great area for pets, safe and secure. Cons: Very few quality restaurants, bars, or shopping. No retail within 8 blocks. Highland Park is a great neighborhood. It could be the next 50th and France but the vision for upscale shopping and dining just isn't there yet. "

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school provides a really positive learning environment. I have one shy kid who is confident and thriving here. I didn't think we would like it because it's big, but it feels like a small, tight community. Parents are active and supportive. Teachers and leadership are AMAZING. We love this school so much.Parent Review5y ago - Urban Academy Charter School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFrom the beginning, my family were outsiders in this unusual and insular culture. They placed our child in a class that was too old/advanced for their development, and our kid struggled on every level as a result. This initial experience had lasting ramifications on our child's experience with the school, and seemingly how they handled us as a family. We were made to believe there was something very wrong with our child. My motherly intuition knew better: it was simply not the right fit for our kid, and I wish I had listened to my gut rather than put our child through two years at this school. We constantly felt unheard, disliked, and discriminated against. My husband and I still can't believe how much money we paid this school while enduring such stressful and traumatic experiences. The communication between teachers and parents always felt very guarded. Everything was like pulling teeth: trying to get specific information from teachers, trying to convince them that my child needed to stop napping in order to sleep fully through the night so as to not wake up overtired for the school day (a vicious cycle where they simply did not trust us parents to know what was best), and feeling like they didn't believe us that our child's "problem" behavior did not occur outside of school. We were put through the ringer getting our child tested for behavioral, developmental, and sensory issues. Our child's healthcare team always came back with the same answers: this is normal toddler behavior, there is nothing wrong with your child, and the problem could be the school itself. It felt like when issues arose with my child at school, we wouldn't learn about them from the lead teacher until it had escalated, leaving us to feel attacked and bombarded by meetings with additional staff members that we didn't even know about. Another of my child's teachers seemingly did not like our child; this was evident not only to us as parents, but to our child themself. Additionally, we never knew exactly what was going on at school for our child, academically or socially. The constant staff turnover should also be a red flag for prospective families. It became clear to us that we were not wanted at this school. This ended up being the best thing for our family! Now that we have had some time and distance, my child is not only thriving in their new school - but excelling! There is nothing wrong with our child. However, there is something very wrong with how this school operates.Parent Review2mo ago - Highland Catholic School
