"Everyone walking their dog is very friendly. Always stopping to greet my dog and the neighbors dog, their dogs are always friendly. Dog friendly community. Respectful of people's property. "
  • Trulia User
"Halloween parades, Columbus Day parades, Christmas Parades, great place to live! It is a very safe place to live. It has the Long Island feel with in Queens. It is a commuters dream. Whether you are traveling for business (JFK is close by) or communicating to NYC for work, public transportation with QM15, QM16, QM17 Q52 or Q53 to Subway, the bus lanes have shortened the commute to NYC. Great restaurants and takeout close by. Kids are able to still be kids here as the sports programs are great!"
  • Bb
"In Old Howard and Hamilton Beach there is barely any sidewalks, at night it is very poorly lit and houses are not maintained very well."
  • Kwlussier22659
"Halloween party at church and Carnival with rides and games at church parking lot. Also, with music and face painting, lots of food and treats for the kids."
  • Trulia User
"Feels great to live in this area, neighbors are friendly, a great community to raise the children’s "
  • Trulia User
"Howard beach has great restaurants including 2 of the best pizza spots in the city. We’ve also got the Jamaica bay wildlife preserve — a national park. "
  • Trulia User
"We don’t have any community events and we’re not big on Halloween or any holiday for that matter it a very closed in neighborhood "
  • Trulia User
"It is along Hawtree Creek which was likely beautiful and clean 80+ years ago, but it is now filthy and polluted and smells awful at low tide. The coolest thing about here are the non-native Monk parakeets that live here each spring and summer. They are native to South America and no one really knows how they came to live here. They make tremendous nests on the electrical poles and lines. I love them. But be careful as you walk looking up at them because you will likely step in dog poo because no one picks up. We also have a couple of swans in the creek. "
  • Trulia User
"Very nice neighborhood, friendly, safe , close to shops and restaurants , close to the airport Also accessible by bus and train "
  • Sandra S.
"Halloween and Holiday decorations are a major highlight. People from all over the Borough come to see them. Also, we have an extensive Fourth of July Firework showcase by many homeowners in the neighborhood."
  • Trulia User
"I’ve lived in this neighbourhood 6 years now it has a beautiful park, people are friendly ,it’s clean well maintain, the dogs Owners clean up after their dogs."
  • Trulia User
"Very direct to downtown Manhattan by train. It is a one fare zone. Many buses to midtown leaving at different times. "
  • Trulia User
"That this neighborhood can be safe for families.... not just your kids playing outside but also going to the corner store "
  • Jessica
"Public transportation is available but limited. If you drive, there is very limited parking in walking distance by the evening hours."
  • Anita
"Quiet streets, stores on the blvd pharmacy’s very convenient area. Schools, church great place to live."
  • Milagros Q.
"Grand openings tend to draw a crowd. Other than that restaurants are a nice place to stop by. There are many on cross bay"
  • Vincent F.
"Nice and clean with friendly people. Plenty of parking and nearby restaurants and stores. Houses are very spacious and homey."
  • Milagros Q.
"Not many dog park areas to allow dogs to roam freely. Many cooperatives in the areas limit number of pets."
  • James A.
"commute in my neighborhood is ok but people would like more ways to get to the train like more bus routes "
  • Shannon C.
"I’ve lived here for 5 years and everyone is very friendly and the schools are amazing as well. There a lot of places to eat in the area. The commute into the city is fast and Howard beach is close to the airport and many places to shop. Less than a 5 minute drive to multiple stores, restaurants, and supermarkets. Neighbors treat each other like family and we look out for each other. "
  • Tamcfogarty
"I’m 4th Generation Old Howard Beacher. My 5th Generation Sons, continue to live in Old Howard Beach. A nice place to raise kids! "
  • Shaquana R.
"It’s quite and a welcoming neighborhood. Friendly environment with good food to commute to late at night. Nice area to jog in. Running trail also nice in the summer time. "
  • Gina C.
"So easy to get anywhere by car or public transportation! A train right to Manhattan in an hour or a quick drive to Long Island is all accessible "
  • Jgiordano
"Neighborhood has changed in the last 5 years dramatically. Plus you have to take in account flooding, for which rockwood park , HB is a Fema flood zone."
  • Diana I.
"Their are parks that welcome dogs on both sides of the neighborhood. It is active and people are always out walking their dogs."
  • Stephanie
"Ive lived in this neighborhood for 4 years and what makes this neighborhood unique is its location. It is close to transportation and has walking distance supermarket, banks, restaurant, pharmacy, cafe, liquor store and more everything you need in one location. School and park are also walking distance as well as religious buildings. It is away from the traffic noise but near the belt pkwy which 5 minutes away in car is the Gateway Center. Having access to all the necessities is a turn key for me."
  • Stephanie
"My commute is about 1 hr and 15 minutes to the city which consists of either the Q41 or the Q21 bus to the A train."
  • Do the right thing
"The neighborhood has changed drastically, Howard Beach is not Howard beach anymore. Neighbors are moving out East or to the Hudson valley or out of state. Coastal flooding is a concern, and it’s priced the cheapest in Queens as a hole. Crime has risen, which never existed. "
  • Vincent P.
"Easily to commute to many locations by public transportation or even by car. About 30 min commute to manhattan by train."
  • Invincible614
"The commute is not that convenient. You have to take a bus to the train stations. But there are multiple bus lines that travel to the city."
  • Ayleen614
"They wouldn’t like that there isn’t a lot of dog park. But it’s quiet & a lot of friendly families around. "
  • Kindness I. O.
"MTA and the Air train leads to any destination within NYC. I love the Howard Beach neighborhood. Subway is clean and on time. Plenty of sitting area. Parking has no side street cleaning."
  • Frankie D.
"Very clean and close neighbors n they all look after each other n watch for anything out of the Ordinary"
  • Jodi M.
"In my area there is a cute park with a track that is very dog friendly. There is good walkability in the area "
  • NellieB
"There have been a lot of robberies in the neighborhood lately. Very few of the children walk by themselves to school, and the old side floods regularly now. There are now two police officers that you can call directly for problems."
  • Stef
"I see dog owners walk their dogs and clean up after them. Some management no longer accept dogs only those grandfathered in."
  • Jmazzeo480
"I grew up in Howard Beach my hole life. my family still lives there (parents) the neighborhood is still decent compared to others. but in all reality it is not the Howard Beach I grew up in. Like all neighborhoods in the city , it has become more diverse. My generation has moved east or north or out of state, but by no means, it is still a good neighborhood, "
  • Tiffanytua22
"community is safe to live and for education, school has crossing guards. the community people know each other very well and often make it better"
  • Dsnyfox
"there are many other dog owners that are friendly and train their dogs properly to get along with others"
