"The neighborhood has changed for the worse in the past five years. More crime, acts of violence. I used to be able to safely walk in the alley. People rummaging through alleys at all hours of day and nights. This was not so 5-10 years ago "

"We have a block party every summer, usually with music provided by our talented neighbors, a bouncy house, and volleyball in the street. We block off the street for the day’s events."

"The availability of great education and reasonable safety are the factors I cared about most before choosing Rogers Park. I'm pleased with the results and absolutely love my neighborhood. I have been keeping my eye on the rising crime rate as it's rising across the city. Including our area"

"All kinds of people live here and get to know each other well. There is a good-sized LGBTQ community and there are LGBTQ businesses here that enjoy community support. There is racial and class diversity here. There is a university, a bookstore, good restaurants, artists, people with unusual pets, families. We have great beaches. Rogers Park is the best. "

"Majority of residences are multi unit buildings! there are blocks with single family homes but know that it's mostly apartment and condo living and there aren't enough parking spaces for everyone on the street! since we are close to the red line you will see strange characters as you meander closer to the train station. "

"It is a diverse but not a connected community. The community groups try very hard to connect the community. But, with the diverse cultures it is next to impossible to make that connection."

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter had an excellent experience in kindergarten and now in first grade. My husband and I both attended neighborhood public schools and went to public universities for undergrad and grad school. We're strong supporters of neighborhood CPS schools. Through Gale, my daughter now has friends and classmates who are black, Latina/o, and white, as well as who are recent refugees from Kurdistan, Myanmar, and the Congo, to mention just a few countries of origin. The principal and teaching staff are using data-driven strategies to improve student learning, and I see a real desire to support the holistic needs of students. Gale is one of just a few CPS schools that has a greenhouse on site as well as a community-school garden that has been a focal point for partnerships with community organizations. There is a lot of negative press out there on neighborhood schools including Gale, which don't give the full picture. Please come and check it out for yourself! Thanks for reading this. :)Parent Review9y ago6 Reviews - Kilmer Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI am writing to share my experience while enrolling my son at this school. During the enrollment process, I encountered staff members who were rude and spoke in a sarcastic tone when answering my questions. As a parent trying to ensure a smooth transition for my child, I found this treatment unprofessional and discouraging.Additionally, the way I was addressed and the dismissive responses I received made me feel uncomfortable and concerned that I was not being treated with the same respect as other parents. The interaction left me feeling that there may have been bias or discrimination involved, which is deeply troubling when dealing with an institution responsible for supporting children and families.Every parent deserves to feel respected and supported when enrolling their child in school. I hope the administration takes this feedback seriously and works to ensure that all families are treated with professionalism, fairness, and dignity.Parent Review2mo ago19 Reviews - New Field Elementary School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI would not recommend this day care to anyone they are irresponsible and there diversity is so bad with those day care people working there. I had a lot of bad experience with my child being there and with 6 incidents in one year, it s dark, cold in the winter it s dirty and the toys for the kids are dirty. Kids ages 2 to 3 can't speak for them selves, I sent my child to Howard Community Center she advance so mucho in such little time with out the incidents.Parent Review13y ago1 Reviews - Chicago Waldorf School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was really excited to put my toddler in the early childhood program 3 years ago. His first year in Mrs. Erika's class was great. However, the next preschool class year included my child being in a mix class which turned out to be a nightmare. He was 4 years old in a mix class with 5 and 6 year olds. The mix class sounded great, I imagined all the great things he was going to learn and friendships that he would build since his previous class was great. However, the lack of supervision in the class was horrible. A few of the 6 year olds boys were teaching my 4 year old a bunch of inappropriate behaviors, exposing private parts consistently in class setting and outdoors while playing. My child was coming home with inappropriate behaviors and questions that were concerning to his mental wellbeing. I brought this up to his teacher, who barely did anything. Then I brought it up to the counselor, then the school administrator, who did absolutely nothing. The teacher told me that "exploring" in a safe place is "okay." I took my child out of there so fast. I'm sure not all the teachers think the same way, but you never know which teacher you will get. Kids go to school to get an education, play and learn to be kind not to learn sexual behaviors at 4 years old! I found out later that one of the 6 year old boys in the previous year was in a class with another kid who was doing the same thing. The school did not care to do anything, they tried to blame me for asking my child questions at home about what goes on at school. I would never let a child go here especially in early toddler years.Parent Review2mo ago29 Reviews - Chicago Waldorf School
