4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageHarvard Kent has always been an amazing community school that really embraces their student body and strives to give the kids a great education. There were some bumps in the road with principal changes over the last few years, but the current (and permanent) principal has proven to be a huge asset. He loves the students, has a vision and is making huge improvements to the school every day (curriculum, school spirit, activities, engagement etc). We have considered sending our kids elsewhere but feel extremely committed to the school for all of our children. And as always - the teachers at the Harvard Kent are truly the warmest, smartest people and our kids leave every day feeling so loved.Parent Review7mo ago6 Reviews - Hugh Roe O'Donnell Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is extremely bad. The students here are incredibly disrespectful, swear a lot, fight, bang on doors, and even fight on campus very frequently, especially in 7th grade where they push each other a lot. I repeat, fighting is extremely, extremely bad. Students hide in the restrooms smoking e-cigarettes, and if students swear, the teachers turn a blind eye. The skipping rate at this school is extremely high. For example, I was in recess in the gym until lunchtime, and for some reason another student pushed me hard. In short, if you're choosing a school for your child, avoid this one.Student Review3mo ago9 Reviews - Roger Clap Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageReported stolen items from this school (from a school play.) They didn’t do anything. Also, this school is perfect for rich children of wealthy parents. But if you’re of low income, don’t even bother about putting your child in this school. They will feel/be excluded and shunned to the side because of their class meanwhile the rich students whose parents have connections will be pandered to. This school is atrocious. Would not recommend.Other Review10mo ago20 Reviews - Channing Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you look at the data, you'll see it. Some teachers don't even teach us anything, they just give us worksheets and expect us to do them. The amount of times I have seen other students fight is insane. And the staff never know! One time, some kids just straight up left the school and nobody knew about it. If you want your child to feel safe or be emotionally supported, don't go here.Other Review4mo ago8 Reviews - Mel H King Elementary

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs a parent, my experience with the Lyndon has been very positive. I can only speak for the elementary grades so far, but my children have progressed well academically and socially. I have been very happy with all of the teachers so far over 5 years. The school offers gym, music, art, science, theater, and various before/after school childcare options/activities. The current administration has been excellent, and notably has increased the academic rigor above what BPS requires generally. Parents are heavily involved which is a major plus.Parent Review1mo ago6 Reviews - Young Achievers Science and Math School

"I and other folks walk their dogs all the time. they l let them play together too, but this area needs a dog park. Friendly neighborhood but only few restaurants. It wound definitely improve the social aspect. So hopefully someone can connect to the right people to make the dog park happen. But all in all its a family neighborhood. Its not very close to rte 93 but be patient you can take the red line trolley or bus to orange or red. Having fun and playing sports is inevitable everywhere. There's several schools around, a new library, There are new high school and middle schools that would interest parents. Do your research. Streets are pretty good but parking depends on the area. Lots of shopping stores to go to every week. "

"I’ve lived in different parts of Mattapan for over 10 years. Mattapan is an okay neighborhood, nothing that spectacular. The area is being revitalized making it close to being one of the last areas of Boston that will remain affordable. Public transportation is not the best in these areas, you will have to do some walking once you get off a bus that runs about half hour to hour depending on time and or the trolley system. "

"I've lived in the neighborhood for over 4 years. There is a playground down the street from my house and it's usually full of children and their gaurdians during the warm weather. The people in the neighborhood are friendly and yes there is a fair amount automobile traffic in the area."
