  • Trulia User
"No special community events but lots of shopping, food and Caribbean Carnival up the street in August."
  • Trulia User
"this is a family area with parks and public transportation and schools for all age groups. there's not a lot of shopping mall areas. you have to travel by car for that"
  • Charles2april
"Most of my neighbors have cookouts that the neighbors feel free to attend. They all have good food, and good music."
  • Edwarda.johson
"There are multiple ways to get downtown and you also have multiple ways to leave the state by train Amtrak or by airplane. Also there are plenty of places to shop and parks to walk as well as a trail that runs from Mattapan to Quincy"
  • Evrandao86
"Great commute to any area around Boston! Red line accessible , bus route is fast and reliable ! I would recommend to any body that wants to live around here "
  • Clifordduiella
"Kids park movies Conner stores commute and it’s a friendly neighborhood and the community and great and good schools "
  • Stephaniedaley007
"8-10 minute walk to bus stop will get you I shape eventually. It seems longet in winter, cars won't stop for you on blue hill ave unless there's a red light and backed up traffic is at stand still"
  • Jarvie
"This neighborhood has taken a turn for better. people are starting to care more about maintaining their surroundings. Blue Hill Ave was just added on the Commuter Rail line and I expect to see things get even better."
  • Rekron
"With the new commuter rail stops downtown is at most 10 minutes away. The Bluehill Reservations recreation areas are half an hour away during non rush hours periods."
  • Stephaniedaley007
"I and other folks walk their dogs all the time. they l let them play together too, but this area needs a dog park. Friendly neighborhood but only few restaurants. It wound definitely improve the social aspect. So hopefully someone can connect to the right people to make the dog park happen. But all in all its a family neighborhood. Its not very close to rte 93 but be patient you can take the red line trolley or bus to orange or red. Having fun and playing sports is inevitable everywhere. There's several schools around, a new library, There are new high school and middle schools that would interest parents. Do your research. Streets are pretty good but parking depends on the area. Lots of shopping stores to go to every week. "
  • Tammy H.
"the Caribbean Festival the different churches and different religious backgrounds of people different cultures all different kind of restaurants which makes it very special hair salons pizza shop front stores clothing stores it has a lot to offer"
  • Jackie M.
"Relatively quiet, low crime rate and family-friendly. Normal pace of city living. I've lived here most of my life."
  • Tamara H.
"Lived here for 9 years. The usual neighborhood noise and issues. Very walkable. Neighbors are nice, but pretty much keeps themselves. Super easy access to public transportation "
  • Stephaniedaley007
"I've lived here for 46 years. The neighborhood is pretty good, not a lot of shopping in this area though, most people know the neighbors, or live here a long home except tenants change every few years, not lot of activities but its ok"
  • Nadine J.
"I’ve lived in different parts of Mattapan for over 10 years. Mattapan is an okay neighborhood, nothing that spectacular. The area is being revitalized making it close to being one of the last areas of Boston that will remain affordable. Public transportation is not the best in these areas, you will have to do some walking once you get off a bus that runs about half hour to hour depending on time and or the trolley system. "
  • Damon R.
"I've lived in the neighborhood for over 4 years. There is a playground down the street from my house and it's usually full of children and their gaurdians during the warm weather. The people in the neighborhood are friendly and yes there is a fair amount automobile traffic in the area."
  • Loc d. L.
"It’s very diverse. In its own unique way. Everything and everyone respects property and family values"
