Read what parents are saying about Heards Ferry Elementary SchoolHave two kids at Heards Ferry and have been very pleased. Gave it a shot rather than private school and it’s far exceeded all expectations.

Posted by a parent on 3/22/2020Like a private-school without the cost. Unlike some of the private schools in the area, the kids are continually tested and can be advanced in math and reading above grade level. There’s also the TAG program which identifies exceptional students and provides additional academic experiences. What’s best about this school is the culture and environment (most parents are truly invested in their child’s education and involved). Yes, this is an upper-middle class to wealthy subset of parents who are mostly well educated (lots of Tesla’s in the carpool line), so not much racial or socioeconomic diversity and the hallways look a little homogeneous. But somehow the school still feels comfortable and you definitely get that sense of community. Overall, an A+ grade in my book.
Posted by a parent on 1/25/2020The school has great facilities (recently built) and a great parent community (generally well educated, affluent Sandy Springs parents who care a lot about their kids' education), so it has the potential to be great. However, I have been very disappointed in the spotty quality of certain teachers. The school is transitioning and for it to be great, they need to find teachers at the level of the facilities, parents and kids. A few have been fabulous, but if your child is stuck with a bad situation it is a nightmare. One recent class had a teacher that went on maternity leave at the beginning of the year (couldn't help that) but never came back, abandoned the kids, so the kids never had a full time teacher all year, just substitutes. There are some teachers with serious relationship issues w/ the kids and uninspired teaching (teaching for tests), which parents hear about from gossip from previous years and nothing has been done about those personnel. It is depressing to hear about. This is not reflective of all the teachers at the school, but if it is your kid, it doesn't matter, it is a nightmare and you wonder what your kid is missing out on. The school needs to learn to take action with the kids interest in mind first and foremost, not let stuff linger. It will not be in the league of the other top schools in Atlanta until it cleans up these situations..
Posted by a parent on 12/16/2018Awesome school! We moved into this school district based on the rave reviews from friends and we love it! The building is brand new, both teachers and other parents seem enthusiastic and happy. All the students seem like good kids from good families, very warm and welcoming. Academics also seem great, accelerating children in math and reading above grade-level if they have the aptitude. Feels like a great close-knit neighborhood school!

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son has been in the SPK class for three years. year 1 was cool because his teacher was experienced and attentive to all of her students. the second year he was assign a new teacher who was teaching for the very first time, so we gave a LOT of grace. going into year two, there has been too many para teachers. Random "float" teachers who would have been handling my son in the bathroom and sent home a huge fist sized poop in my son's bag when he had an accident. any time I ask a basic question its typically met with an "idk it wasn't me" or "you should ask someone else I'm not sure". The icing on the cake was the parking protocol was functional in the first two years. in year three, the assistant principle who is tall and a male, approached my car with my son in it demanding I move my car because the parking system has changed. Even though there wasn't an email or message on the ck12 app. this new system involved only the SPK car riders to park in a traffic lane and literally walk across the parking lot of bus/ vans and other cars. I calmly expressed that it was dangerous, and my son gets excited for school and can run to his teacher as soon as we get out the car and his response was "hold his hand then". then he sent the campus police to me threating to "write me a ticket" for not parking in a traffic lane and away from vehicles. the cop approached me with his hand on his gun as if we weren't at a school but instead like I'm a criminal. the principal Ms. Alford and she seemed understanding to the issue and agreed the new drop off/ pick up policy wasn't the safest. she then the very next day of this talk tell my fiancé and myself that they have launched an "investigation" because I "drive wreck less" around children in their parking lot of no visual reminders of the flow of traffic and at the time no traffic enforced personnel. after the clear discrimination and segregation of my special needs son, i used the main lot to walk him to and from school for about 1.5 months. during our monthly meeting with his teacher, another AP expressed to us that we were allowed to join the NEW and safer policy for drop off and pick up with no evidence discovering that i was in fact not recklessly driving. as we joined the line, it was VERBATIM where i would park to drop and pick him up. to this day they cannot look me in my face or respond to an email. needless to say, we will never see Brumby after this school year.Parent Review4w ago - Lake Forest Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur son attended HSP for 3 years, but ultimately we chose to transfer him to another school. The teachers want to support students with learning differences, but the school lacks the expertise. As stated by many others on this site, administrators are oblivious to the bullying and high stress levels their students experience. Some of the parents are bigger bullies than the kids, but as long as they continue writing checks, everyone looks the other way. Sports (but not Sportsmanship) seem more important than academics at HSP. It’s a top down issue, as their program emphasizes winning over inclusion or Godliness.Parent Review5mo ago - Holy Innocents Episcopal School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTeachers and administrators are warm and kind. They truly want the best for every student. Montessori approach creates a love of learning and respect for differences. Highly recommend. My son is in 7th grade, he has attended Springmont since 3rd grade.Parent Review1y ago - Shreiner Academy
