"Great neighborhood for families with excellent outdoor green spaces. Transit is not the greatest from the outer edges. "

"some dog owners don't pick up after their dogs and there's hardly any dog parks around bernal heights. if your dog isn't good off leash, you're limited to dog parks."

"It's a dog-lover's paradise. There's so much space for walking a dog here—probably 50 acres on the hill alone. You'll be exhausted when you're finished walking that."

"Except for among the people who live here, this is one of San Francisco's best-kept secrets, and that's what's so nice about it. It has tranquility and cleanliness. The streets are not littered, and it is not too often that you will see a syringe lying on the ground as you do downtown. Bernal Heights is also built on solid shelf rock, so it's a safe place to be in an earthquake. Commuting up to this neighborhood, you'd better be ready for lots of turns and twists and hills. The higher you go, the more lost you can become if you're not from around here, but it's actually fun getting lost in this neighborhood."

"There's a park that is a favorite spot for dog owners to bring their dogs to because it's specifically a 'leash free' zone. It's a pretty large park too."

"As more people move in and out of the area, the streets have become a little more crowded with traffic at certain hours of the day. It's most noticeable when dinner time approaches and people are coming to eat at the restaurants on Cortland Ave."

"I think what makes this neighborhood unique is its mix of old and new. You can find small old-style Victorian houses and large modern homes in the same area. Also, the Alemany Farmers' Market is within walking distance from where I live. Every Saturday, local farmers bring their produce to sell, and on Sunday there is a flea market."

"There is a library and elementary school in the area as well as parks for children to play in. The neighborhood is relatively safe as long as parents keep an eye on their kids."

"There's one semi-reliable bus (MUNI's 23 line) and one mostly reliable BART ride to downtown."

"It's a very tightly knit community—everyone seems to know each other. Its main street, Cortland Avenue, is about four blocks of boutique shops and cafes. There's a fair each year called Fiesta on the Hill and they show movies in the park a few times a year."

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have two kids at Flynn and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive. What makes Flynn stand out isn’t just the Spanish immersion program, which has been incredible, but the strong, supportive community and the many ways the school goes above and beyond for its students. One of my children has an IEP, and I’ve felt so well-supported in ensuring they have what they need to thrive. The staff has been responsive and collaborative, and it’s clear they genuinely care about each child’s success. Flynn also has a lot of dedicated support staff, which makes a huge difference. From the resource teachers to the specialists, there’s a real team approach to making sure all students feel included and are set up to succeed. The school also prioritizes social and emotional learning. My older child has benefited from social skills groups and loves being part of the Pride Club, a space where students can feel supported and celebrated. Events like Field Day are highlights for both of my kids, bringing the whole school together for fun and connection.Flynn’s PTA is another major strength. Parents work hard to bring so much to the school, from cultural celebrations and teacher appreciation to community-building events like movie nights and coffee chats. The PTA also advocates for the school’s needs, which has led to improvements like clean water advocacy and tutoring programs.Flynn isn’t perfect, but the sense of community here is really special. If you’re looking for a school with a welcoming vibe, a commitment to inclusion, and a team of people ready to support every child, I’d definitely recommend taking a tour. You’ll see why we feel lucky to be part of Flynn.Parent Review1y ago35 Reviews - Revere (Paul) Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIn 2002 or 2003, a 4th grade teacher deliberately humiliated a student in front of half of the school. The principal enabled this teacher's attitude and announced this humiliation in front of the school and gave this student a certificate for it. None of the school staff ever try to mend the situation, they simply let it happen. The very same teacher had been ostracizing this student throughout the whole school year. This is appalling and absolutely abhorrent and it would scar this student for the rest of his life. This teacher is ineffective at her job, the principal's leadership is lackluster, the school has no sense of compassion or respect for their students, and these are grown adults bullying children.Other Review4y ago14 Reviews - St. Anthony Immaculate Conception

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter and I came into this school to see if the school was the right fit for my daughter, My daughter is dyslexic. I had heard missed reviews of the school but thought we would give the school a try. At first glance staff was great and children very friendly. Principal not so much. The principal informed me my daughter would have to take and assesment to see what grade my daughter would place in. I informed principal of my daughters learning difference and social emotional struggles because she had been bullied due to her learning difference. My daughter is very quiet and had a hard time warming up to principal. Principal was completely rude and disrespectful to my daughter, a child! How dare she. Principal: “do you even know anything,” “You should know this by now!” What is wrong with this lady has she ever heard of a child with a learning difference or does she know how to speak to children. She completely caused by daughter confidence to completely drop. How do I regret not listening to the negatives I had heard of this school and all related to the principal and how she picks favorites. I have heard of bullying. Why is this woman in charge of a school? I encourage children and families that have been victims of this woman to speak up. Children should be treated with respect and reassurance. This woman should not be in charge of a school!Parent Review2y ago17 Reviews
