6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA Parent’s Perspective on a Year of Failed Leadership at Yuba River Charter SchoolAs a parent, I send my child to school with the expectation that they will learn in a safe, respectful environment—supported by leaders who act with fairness, integrity, and good judgment. This past year has left me deeply concerned that these basic expectations are no longer being met at our school.Throughout the year, serious incidents of harassment and unprofessional behavior took place right in front of staff, parents, and even students. These were not isolated misunderstandings but part of a clear pattern that was brought to the attention of the school’s director multiple times. Each time, instead of stepping in to protect the well-being of staff and maintain a healthy school climate, he chose to look the other way.The inaction was not only disappointing—it was damaging. It signaled to the school community that unacceptable behavior could continue without consequences. Even when confrontations became more aggressive, and even when they disrupted school events, there was still no decisive intervention from the administration.Parents talk, and many of us have seen or heard about similar failures in the past. The message we take from this is troubling: that leadership is willing to protect certain individuals rather than uphold consistent standards for everyone. This kind of favoritism erodes trust and sends the wrong example to our children. Now, trust in the school’s leadership has been badly shaken. The sense of safety and unity that once defined our school community has been replaced with doubt and frustration. The recent posting for a new co-director role may suggest the governing board recognizes there’s a problem—but for many parents, that acknowledgment feels long overdue. In my view, this was not simply a year with a few mistakes. It was a year in which the director’s poor judgment and unwillingness to address serious problems undermined the very values our school is supposed to stand for. As a parent, I want better for my child—and for every child who walks through these doors.Parent Review8mo ago15 Reviews - Lyman Gilmore Middle School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are very happy with our experience at Grass Valley Charter. The community is wonderful and we love the staff and families here. I'm a big fan of the expeditionary learning model that gets them out of the classroom doing some really amazing things. Our kids are thriving and we highly recommend it.Parent Review4mo ago7 Reviews - Margaret G. Scotten Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have received so much support from Scotten school, My son has an IEP and the staff has really worked with us and have been willing to accommodate my familys needs and have been open minded and caring in the process. I have had a unique situation and I felt we have became a team in support of my son. My son is very happy at school and feels excited to tell me about the new things he learns and he is fully integrated with his peers and is learning at his pace with positive encouragement from the entire staff. Classrooms can only cover so much and I feel that working with my son in the evening on the lessons he brings home from that day help me understand what they are doing at school currently . It bridges the gap for me and I find it helpful to review the lesson before doing our homework. I am very pleasedParent Review11y ago6 Reviews - Mount St. Mary's Academy

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLet me spill the tea about Mt. St. Mary School because, honestly, this place has been nothing short of a drama show. If you’re a working parent, prepare to ditch your career because you’ll be doing the pickup shuffle for the most ridiculous reasons. I mean, seriously? My kid got sent home for what felt like the most petty stuff! It’s like they think we have nothing better to do than run back and forth to the school. And speaking of back and forth, let’s talk about communication. Good luck getting any real support; it’s more like a judging contest every time you walk through the door. Instead of finding allies in the teachers, I often felt like I was stepping into a reality show where everyone else was the judge and jury. A little warmth wouldn’t hurt, ladies! Now, on to the building itself. It’s a serious fixer-upper! The air conditioning? Barely a whisper of cool air when summer hits, and I swear parts of the structure look like they could use some serious TLC. I’m half-expecting a safety inspector to show up any day now and declare “condemned!”All in all, if you're looking for a nurturing environment for your child, you might want to keep scrolling. This place has potential but desperately needs a makeover in both the administration’s approach and the physical facilities. I wish I didn’t have to say all this; I really wanted to love this school!Parent Review3mo ago13 Reviews - Bugle Academy
