DECS is a shining example of what a small community school can achieve when it comes together with a shared purpose: supporting its children. Despite its size, the school consistently goes above and beyond, creating opportunities for students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The dedication of the staff, the creativity in programs, and the genuine care for each student are evident in everything they do.It’s unfortunate to see some negative opinions circulating, particularly those rooted in concerns about the school becoming more “liberal.” In many cases, these criticisms seem to stem from personal beliefs rather than the actual quality of education or student experience. Schools should be places where children are exposed to new ideas, taught to think critically, and encouraged to understand and respect differences. That’s not a weakness—it’s a strength.What this school is doing is preparing students not just for the next grade level, but for the real world. By fostering inclusivity, empathy, and open-mindedness, they are helping shape thoughtful, respectful individuals.
