7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe teachers at this school are excellent--as good as you will find in any private school. I don't know how they do it, given how many students they have, but they are really invested, really get to know all these kids. There is always that one teacher who doesn't seem to like kids or their job, but I've found that to be the case everywhere, even when spending $25K+ on tuition. We didn't know a whole lot about IB going in, and while I love the philosophy of expanding world views and critical thinking, I find the grading system bizarre and, I feel, it causes undue stress. But that's a criticism of IB, not City. The school goes above and beyond to try to support kids struggling with mental health issues like anxiety and depression, but I guess I feel like all schools, all of us as a society, should be doing more to prevent kids from becoming so stressed in the first place. The emphasis on high stakes testing might be great for kids who are naturally competitive and confident, but even for them, is that really healthy? Overall, we are happy with the school. I wouldn't say this is good preparation for college though--college is FAR easier and less stress. In IB you have 6 or 7 academic subjects. If I recall, in college I think you only have like 4? If you have a child who is prone to anxiety or depression, I would be sure to have a lot of supports in place. Remind your kids that this particular test or that grade will make zero difference in the overall quality of their life and to lighten up. The students and staff have all been so welcoming. When you walk through the halls during instruction you can hear a pin drop!!! Awesome school vibes with lots of smiling faces and support! 1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMY experience at connexions is terrible the staff here are immature and its not uncommon for the staffs to get into arguments even as far as fighting students. We were told that we cannot wear hoodies or anything with a hood as soon as we started following that rule we no longer can wear sweaters and jackets without hoodies we cant even wear jackets without hoods at all the only staff that helps is brother isaiah muhhamed and ms carter.i hate this school its ruining my mental everyday i walk in here.Parent Review1y ago - Digital Harbor High School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThere isn’t much offered here… The AP courses listed here are inaccurate, we only have AP Gov, AP Calc, AP Seminar/Research, AP psychology, & AP Stats. The teachers aren’t terrible at all, some of them are great at doing lessons, but the school can’t keep teachers for long… I didn’t even have a math teacher Sophomore year… We had a substitute all year long. Then Junior year my math teacher quit within the first 3 months… My stats: I scored a 1000+ on the SAT, and had a 3.5+ GPA and was top 10 within my class… I was on track with College level English/Writing but wasn't prepared for College math. I wouldn’t recommend this school unless it was a last resort. Even though I got good grades and succeeded I didn’t learn much. School environment isn’t the safest… Guns were found, people were stabbed.. There were shootings around the school, and we were on lockdown every other week.Other Review1mo ago - Vivien T. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs students in the 2023–2024 school year, my sister and I feel that some teachers (of course, not all) are poor at teaching. Some are too focused on seating or uniforms (or even their own egos) rather than student education. Some even seem to not know the subject they are teaching or how to teach it. This is very worrying to me personally because I know I deserve a good education. Of course, there are some disruptive students. However, some students get sent out without good reason. These students don't even get a minute to explain themselves, and I think we deserve to be listened to, even outside of a situation like this. As for the bathroom, almost every teacher that I've had has a "go in your next class" or "Why didn't you go in your last class" mentality. This goes around in circles. If every teacher thinks this, there will never be a time to go to the bathroom. Additionally, the (female) bathroom downstairs is terribly small, and, from what I've experienced, the upstairs one, which is much bigger, is locked most of the time. The thing I do like about this school is duel enrollment. I think it's great that I could get out of college early by taking courses in high school. However, I do wish that there were more courses. I hope that this helps some parents.Student Review4mo ago - Renaissance Academy

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe leadership at the school is horrible and so u organized the whole school is a sham they are supposed to be for sister hood but that is all a lie i took my daughter out of there her first year in 6th grade in the second quarter and sent her back to her old school the kids are out of control and the adults can’t handle the girls it was fights every day and the only way I would find out is id my daughter told me . There is no type of communication for the school as far as emails .. also if you email an administrator don’t expect a response until next week sometime. The movie step shows you how much of a sister hood and great school its supposed to be but the movie is a front and its not at all like the school really is .
