  • Trulia User
"many people in the neighborhood have animals and walk their pets frequently. some pets are not on leash and we have some stray cats."
  • Dennis E.
"Clean up the streets community eventsClean up the street community events are very important lotta this work is through self help maintaining the safe walkable street they have been blocked off that’s a continual effort but it is paying off in the long run garden sharing a fool food crops it’s also a community activity"
  • Claire A.
"It’s a very friendly neighborhood where people look out for one another. A strong community feeling. People say hello and stop to talk and introduce themselves. "
  • Dennis E.
"Hello this is my property and I enjoy living here in West Oakland. I’m not sure what people will be looking for but it is convenient to downtown Oakland and two downtown San Francisco 15 minute bus ride. West Oakland keeps getting better and better every day."
  • Steven C.
"Artist community and loft style apartments makes the neighborhood unique but it’s also a bit far from bars and restaurants"
  • Dennis E.
"No, to many lose pit bull running around Also need to get rid of all the drug dealers that are standing around on corners."
  • Dennis E.
"Best part about West Oakland is that your 15 minutes away from Downtown San Francisco’s financial district "
  • Crabfisher
"So many dog owners in this neighborhood and everyone is friendly! My girlfriend feels very safe walking around after dark with the dog and it's a great place to live. We love it. "
  • Dennis E.
"Central location to the metropolitan Bay Area. 20 minutes to SF financial district by bus or car pool. Mixed use zoning great for startup garage micro companies and artists. Best climate in the SF Bay!"
  • Crabfisher
"the people are so nice, and we are getting a grocery store this year (2018) right nearby! People's Community Market. Very easy to get to SF too. I can get downtown faster than most of my friends who live in SF can."
  • Bbeater30
"They wouldn’t have no problem walking their dogs. The problem is people with dogs leave their dogs messes everywhere."
  • Crabfisher
"Very dog friendly! Everyone here has dogs and are very friendly. Great neighborhood for walking dogs and meeting new ones. "
  • Agentbillue
"We all know each other and keep in communication if and when needed. Nice neighborhood. Extremely walkable!!!"
  • Eve A.
"I think if you live in this 'hood you would want to have good security. I live here and my building is very secure. I feel fine walking around during the day. There is McClymonds High School - a technical magnet school down the street. The grounds are well maintained and the teens coming out of there are generally respectful and quiet. I find that most of the people in this neighborhood are very friendly. I walk my dog 2 times per day here - there is a clean grass in some places but there is also trash and broken glass to be avoided. "
