"Safe on the upper hill. Not on the lower. Very dog friendly neighborhood and people are nice. Lots of restaurants and grocery stores"
  • niceguys
"this is quiet place. very beautiful town. every corners there are truly many nice people live here. "
  • Trulia User
"History. I live in a cottage built in 1875. The neighborhood would be great if it was more neighborly. It has a homeless issue that needs the city to clean up. "
  • Trulia User
"Great walking, lots of public transportation, close to North Beach and Down Town. Friendly neighbors, restaurants and other facilities."
  • Trulia User
"My neighborhood has easy access to public transit. I work from home so my commute is pretty quick lol. But when I did, downtown was just 30min walk. The walk is usually pretty safe. However I am a 238lb 6’ black man so you may have a different experience. "
  • P W.
"Nice neighborhood. Very quiet and pretty. Not as many homeless here as the hills are too challenging for them most likely🙃"
  • Sujanmun
"Seems like lots of dog owners live in this area. May not like the fact that there aren't many grassy patches like living in the suburbs. "
  • Rinasantiago
"Walking distance to downtown, GG bridge, grocery stores and gym. Lots of different people live in the area (ages, races, single, married)."
  • Natalia W.
"the local grocer does movie nights and the association takes care of the park. we have rose nights and tree lighting for families "
  • Curtis C.
"Chinatown and North Beach all in between a classical SF area parking is Terrible people are kept to themselves for the most part "
  • Derrick L.
"There are several playgrounds nearby but the steep hills might make it hard to lug a stroller around"
  • Derrick L.
"Getting downtown is easy either walking or by bus, but getting back can be a slog with the hill. Some hills are steep enough to be problematic walking down, too."
  • Melissa R.
"Very cute and fairly safe neighborhood. Close to everything - walking distance to downtown, the marina, ferry building. "
  • Smontinola
"It is a very quite neighborhood. Clean and peaceful. Close to North Beach, Chinatown and Fidi so it’s very convenient to live here. Lots of neighborhood restaurants and shops."
  • Locke J.
"Very walkable and centrally located for FiDi or SoMa workers that enjoy the Northern Half of the city away from work. "
  • Alexandra H.
"The playground near Grace Cathedral was recently renovated. It is a favorite for dog walkers, as well. "
  • Jenn M.
"no trash cans for blocks. I get it, it sucks. Go to a city council meeting. Stop leaving your dog poop bags all over our streets. Where's the dignity? Dogs everywhere, which I love, but the owners have become complacent due to the lack of city garbage cans. Time for a change. Speak up, tell the district supervisor. Something! I'm leaving because I'm fed up."
  • Jenn M.
"Lots of transients coming up the hill from the Tenderloin. Trash everywhere. Dog owners through poop bags wherever. No trash cans anywhere nearby. Lots of traffic. Lots of construction. Young people drink heavily and often fight verbally at loud, obnoxious levels on the weekend nights. Very scarce parking. SFMTA does not mess around with ticketing. "
  • Kristina C.
"There’s not a lot of public trash bins for the bags of doggy poo. You may end carrying it around for a while. "
  • Emleach
"Safety, well Maintained properties, lots of long term residents, dogs, grace cathedral, nice restaurants "
  • Boris K.
"It is very kid friendly and safe. Amazing restaurants. There are good schools and there is the Salesian Boys and Girls Club which has many great activities. Good shopping. Many kind people. A brand new library has opened. An overall great neighborhood."
  • Bkarlinsky
"This is a 55 plus neighborhood. Children can visit, but there aren’t any who live here. I wouldn’t walk anywhere at night, being a single woman. This is a good area though, and seems as safe as any!!"
  • Hirstyka
"I’ve lived here for three years and think the neighborhood is lovely, hilly and pretty quite other than the trolley noises."
  • Mary D.
"Many homes have great views, the city has tons of charm and there are excellent restaurants in the neighborhood. "
  • Trulia User
"Friendly neighborhood lots of people walking dogs and they are all on a leach and people are absolutely friendly most of the time!"
  • Hareesh.w.kapoor
"not many children in the neighborhood, but there isn't much crime compared to nearby areas. most likely due to small and expensive housing options"
  • Pete R.
"It's a residential area with mostly apartments, a walkable neighborhood that's close to the Financial District and Union Square. We have Grace Cathedral, and the cable cars on California Street are often empty."
  • Pete R.
"The commute is best by public transit. There's heavy traffic and parking is difficult."
  • Diane W.
"It's a great neighborhood for dogs, but because Nob Hill is filled with lots of close together apartments, if you have a noisy pup, your neighbors may not be very happy with you."
  • Diane W.
"Nob Hill has the perfect combination of friendly restaurants and bars, outdoor space, and neighborhood pups."
  • Diane W.
"Because it's so central, there are tons of options for commuting from Nob Hill. I can walk if I'm feeling sporty in the morning (all those hills are a workout!). I can call a Lyft or Uber and get downtown in less than 15 minutes. I can also grab the cable car if I'm feeling adventurous."
  • Diane W.
"I think it's very much a family friendly neighborhood. So many restaurants are family friendly, and we also have Huntington Park, which is an awesome place to have a picnic or play with your dog."
  • Maren M.
"There are not many trees or green spaces in my neighborhood."
  • Maren M.
"It's super steep, with amazing views of the city and the bay. I like the yoga at Grace Cathedral on Tuesday nights."
  • Maren M.
"I walk to work. It's 30 minutes downhill to SoMa and 35 minutes uphill to get back home."
