What Locals Say about Visitacion Valley
- Mina Bobina
- Resident

"I personally don’t feel comfortable having my child play around the streets here. There’s a lot of people who don’t stop at stop signs and some crimes still happen even in broad daylight. Although it’s a pretty suburban part of SF, there are some homelessness around Leland"
- Trulia User

"Watch your kids when they are playing outside. Cars speed through the streets and do not stop at stop signs."
- Victoria W.

"I can commute to downtown with the 8 and the 9. Very frequent busses and stops. The T runs north and then to downtown area. "

"I was born and raised and still live in Vis Valley. It was changed, for the better, over the 40 years. The people here are diverse, warm and mostly friendly. It is much safer than it used to be. Yes there are some people that hang out on the streets, but they are harmless. There are a few homeless people in the streets, not a lot. The neighborhood is very dog friendly and there is a huge park on Leland with a baseball field for them to play in. Public transportation is easy to catch and very frequent, it will bring you downtown in about 35 mins during the week. and it will get you home at night in about the same amount of time. I don’t think you need a car unless you want to head over to the easy bay or south bay- i usually get an uber if i go out at night. "

"we have community summer festivity that celebrates togetherness in taking care out community parks. "

"Visitacion Valley has potential to grow as an independent community. There is growing homeless issue in some parts of the neighborhood streets that need to be addressed proactively by it's own residents. "

"This is a great place to buy if you want an easy commute to the south bay, an easy commute to downtown SF or you want to see a significant home appreciation in the next few years."
- VVdude

"It’s crime-ridden; unsafe and unfriendly. 90 year old grandmothers brutally beaten in broad daylight. It’s a desperate, fraught neighborhood that only the desperate inhabit. But it’s SF. "
- Billy G Gruff

"One of the last forgotten neighborhoods of San Francisco. Gentrification hasn't exactly taken hold yet. No grocery stores or restaurants to mention. Grocery Outlet is the only thing other than Teddy Market, which has been a staple for over 40 years. Some neighbors feel littering is a right. Some streets border on blight and lack of pride for where one lives. You have to travel out for even the very basics. Could be a hidden gem....the potential is there!"

"Trash on the streets. OG gangsta crew smokin pot in grocery store, lack of windows at grocery store. Police annex at housing development. "

"I've lived in this neighborhood for 3yrs. The weather is warmer than most areas in SF. The neighborhood is very cultural diverse. There are plenty of businesses that provide services to the community. Public transportation is easily accessible."
- Clarice H.

"Not safe at night. Not a healthy, inspiring environment. Sometimes you’ll see pretty weird dudes hanging around."
- Ttjahjadi6801
- Resident

"it's still a charming neighborhood, regardless so much garbage everywhere on the streets or loud noises from time to time, regardless non-holidsy times."
- Dombroway
- Resident

"30-45 minutes by express bus to downtown. Very easy commute to and from work. Close to the airport. "
- Ronnie K.
- Resident

"The pot holes. The construction on the street with signs that prohibit parking, making it impossible to park unless you have a garage or driveway. The wind blowing the contaminated dirt from the old navy shipyard. Grocery Outlet is the only decent store around, no gyms in the neighborhood, and hardly and restaurant. "
- Trisha M.

"Dog owners would like the open space greenways and hiking in the huge John McLaren Park. It's one of the biggest public parks in San Francisco, and it isn't man-made. Dog owners probably wouldn't like the stray cats, skunks, raccoons, and occasional coyotes, depending on how big the dogs are. If they're chihuahuas then the owner should be worried."
- Trisha M.
- Resident

"The greenway ranges four whole blocks across parallel streets. We also have John McLaren Park, which is actually bigger than Golden Gate Park. There's also the Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre where local performances are sometimes held. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, but we have a neighborhood watch on our block and have get-togethers from time to time. The holiday potlucks are great. Not only do you get to mingle with neighbors, but you get to show them what kind of food you're good at making. Last time, we brought a homemade chocolate tart."

"It's not a dangerous neighborhood. Hasn't been for at least a decade. There are lots of open areas and parks for children to walk to and play in. And for any curious kids who are interested in plants, we also have a neighborhood community garden where people grow flowers, vegetables, fruits, and herbs."
- Maria C.
- Resident

"The commute to and from my neighborhood is pretty long and exhausting."
- Maria C.
- Resident

"It's a townhouse neighborhood. Normally it's pretty easy find a parking space, and there is no traffic."
- Maria C.
- Resident

"There are a lot of areas where kids can play."
- Curtis L.

"We have a huge park where dog owners can let their dogs free, because there is so much open space for the dogs to run."
- Michelle F.
- Resident

"There are a lot of people in the neighborhood who own dogs."
- Michelle F.

"We have several buses that you can take to and from the neighborhood. It's easy to take the bus anywhere in Visitacion Valley."
- Curtis L.
- Resident

"There's a Muni bus, but I always take BART to work if possible because it is much faster than the bus. I also take Uber or Lyft if I have to."
- Michelle F.
- Resident

"It's the neighbors that make our neighborhood unique. It's a close-knit community. The neighborhood is mostly quiet, and at night there's barely anyone outside. We have a nice trail that leads to a park and a garden area, and we have a state park that's large and woody. The library is a great place to hang out. There are several restaurants that serve good food, and we have a market that has a butcher section."
- Curtis L.
- Resident
- 6y ago
"It has lots of diversity, it's quiet, and it has a variety of food to eat. And it's also for everyone. There's a street fair on Sunday when they have a lot of people bringing out cultural food to sell and games for everyone."
- Michelle F.
- Resident
- 6y ago
"There are several things to do with your child on the weekends. The library is a good place to hang out, get extra resources, and do activities. The schools in the neighborhood are good, and the teachers care about the students. We have a boys and girls club, and the elementary school partners with the YMCA. The neighborhood library has days where they play movies for children and families, and around Christmas one of the clothing stores gives out toys to kids."
