"Always walk with your children especially across streets and close to any night clubs. Other than that it is mainly safe."
  • Trulia User
"North Beach Fair. Fleet Week. Columbus Day Parade. Every weekend in North Beach has crowds in the park, restaurants, bars. "
  • Trulia User
"We have great coffee shops, bars, and restaurants and everyone is very neighborly and friendly. You get to know everyone which is nice. "
  • Ben R.
"Columbus Day, Fleet Week, and Fourth of July all center around North Beach. It has always felt very European, but now with all the parklet dining, even more so!"
  • Bryan H.
"Gorgeous. Thereโ€™s Washington square which is a beautiful cross section of the neighborhood. Restaurants are amazing and diverse and walkability to downtown is unparalleled "
  • Ben R.
"I walk to Market Street, and it takes about 20 minutes from Telegraph Hill. Lots of great stuff along the way like coffee and pastries."
  • Bryan H.
"Easy 20 min walk to downtown fidi. Public transportation is lacking but if you work in fidi, itโ€™s an easy commute "
  • Thn302
"Great neighborhood but Itโ€™s still a city dealing with city problems. Families in the neighborhood are great."
  • Valerie V.
"There are tons of lines that get you anywhere you need to go without too much walking or switching buses. Cable cars too!"
  • Shawn
"North Beach doesnโ€™t need much explaining. It is well know as little Italy and is in very close proximity to Chinatown where very affordable produce can be found. There are still several Italian families in the neighborhood and the restaurants are among the best in the city for under $50 per plate. There are certainly fancier areas, but this area feels authentic. Sure there are a lot of tourists and the places along Columbus cater to the tourists. Get just a few feet off Columbus and youโ€™ll find the real North beach."
  • Martina R.
"History. Balance between neighborhood vibe and tourist/nightlife destination. Quirkiness. Hills to get home mean you donโ€™t need a gym. Itโ€™s not for the faint of heart. "
  • Grady J.
"Getting into and out of the city from North Beach is painful. Do not recommend if you commute outside of the city. "
  • Julie P.
"I havenโ€™t been to a community event but there is a nice park called Washington Square there that everyone hangs out at. Itโ€™s nice in the summer time to chill out there with friends. Thereโ€™s a lot of small shops, restaurants, and bars to go to. You can also visit the church next to the park and itโ€™s beautiful. "
  • Leslie K.
"I visit the neighborhood a couple of times a year. I always feel safe and at home when out. Iโ€™d love to live there! "
  • J
"We have a Jeffreyโ€™s pet store by Washington Square park that all the local pet owners frequent. The staff knows almost every dog that walks in. Theyโ€™ve managed to build a very special animal loving community."
  • Jayden
"Noisy place, especially on weekend nights, drunk neighbors donโ€™t know how to be quiet. But this area is super convenience. Also a lots of mosquitos during September to November "
  • Annie T.
"North Beach is a wonderful little corner of the city that seems to be agnostic to the changing times. Its charm and character have remained consistent over the years, with old Italian establishments and quiet Victorian-lined streets. "
  • Martina R.
"Its history, quirkiness, and intense hills make it extremely unique - always exciting, diverse, loud, and hard to park in. "
  • Ledwards82804
"I work principally from home, but head to San Carlos for meetings once a week. It takes 10-20 minutes to get to the 101, depending on time of day."
  • Fxguerrero
"Movie nights after a film has been filmed in the neighborhood. For example, the movie Venom by Marvel Comics was filmed on our street and we had a free screening to the movie."
  • Paola_rossaro
"The sense of community. It is like a small town in the middle of an international multicultural city."
  • Trent
"I work in SOMA so itโ€™s a quick ride on the Vespa. I either go through financial district or take the Embarcadero. "
  • Mindy d.
"I love it! Feels like a real neighbourhood with history and community. Not like the mission which is hostile"
  • Gina L.
"The dog population has been booming since I've lived there. I was one of only a few dog owners in the neighborhood 20 years ago. There is a park right smack in the middle of the neighborhood and many dogs are enjoying it."
  • Gina L.
"North Beach has many good Italian restaurants and is very close to Chinatown, so you're walking distance to two great cuisines. Neighborhood street fairs are almost always a great time, with danceable music, great aromas from the delicious food, lots of arts and crafts, and sometimes a petting zoo."
  • Gina L.
"Not a lot of children in the neighborhood."
  • Kate M.
"Washington Square Park and nearby Aquatic Park are fun for dogs."
  • Kate M.
"There's good Italian food, a lot of history, and it's centrally located."
