"most things are on my doorstep, shops, groceries and public transportation. Rent is high, parking is a nightmare, but if you don't need a car to commute to work and don't mind some riff-raff walking around on occasion. its great...pubs and bars and restaurants are amazing, variety and convenience at its best."
  • Fabiopulvirenti
"A lot of aggressive self talking homeless. Dirty roads. Tiny spaces. Too much traffic. This area is not safe."
  • Nikola V.
"full of homeless people during the day and especially at nights. Also hokers, not that much during day, but full of them at nights. its very dirty, all done by homeless people, they just go to the trash can and star taking garbage out and throwing it on the street and sidewalk"
  • Halim R.
"I live downtown. I am within walking distance to many places. Bus lines and the cable car are available."
  • Rebelsoulmusic24
"the neighborhood is growing with new people all the time. we should teach our children about respecting other nationalities and cultures."
  • Michael F.
"Don’t let your kids walk around alone. There are hundreds of highly mentally unstable people whose behaviors can be unpredictable, threatening, and dangerous. The neighborhood has been in steep decline"
  • Halim R.
"If you live in this area you don’t need to have a car. Easy walk to union square, Chinatown, north beach and other great attractions. Many restaurants to choose from and plenty of shops to go to."
  • Paul S.
"I love the diversity and dynamic nature of the neighborhood. There's lots of activity, like the farmers' market on Sundays. And I like the hole-in-the-wall places for their authentic gritty vibe."
  • Paul S.
"Not super kid-friendly. I wouldn't recommend it to parents."
  • Jason S.
"There is a wealth of local flavor to be had in the polk gulch area. There is a little something for everyone here. Some rough folks here on the streets so still be mindful, but still lots of good times had here"
  • Nove T.
"Not many outdoor spots to take dogs—just a few small parks. You have to travel for good dog spots."
  • Nove T.
"It's diverse and has great restaurants, bars, and nightlife with live bands. It's also close to galleries, museums, and music venues."
  • S.D.
"It's convenient. I Uber or walk. Parking is hard to find and expensive."
  • Nove T.
"Great public transportation. There's lots of traffic and parking sucks. Best to Uber or Lyft."
  • P.J.
"A lot of traffic, so it takes a long time to get from place to place."
  • Nove T.
"Not a good place to raise children. There's crime and no good schools."
  • Adora G.
"There's too much foot traffic and not enough places for a dog to be free."
  • Gary H.
"My neighborhood respects animals. I have two pets and love it here."
  • John E.
"There are lots of dogs in the area, and people walking dogs to visit with. Some buildings have security deposits and added monthly charges for pet owners."
  • John E.
"I am close enough to walk to everything I need."
  • S.D.
"Not appropriate for kids. Not kid-friendly. No good schools and no after-school programs or playgrounds."
  • Renee F.
"I lived in the Lower Nob Hill area for 2 years. What I loved was waking up to city life every day. Bush St is super busy most of the day/night, so you can feel the hustle and bustle of people and cars. The energy this creates is amazing! I lived a few blocks from Union Square and one street over from the cable cars. I had the best market next door at Bush and Mason! Even though prices were a little higher than a Trader Joe's, the convenience and the nice owners made it worth it! Having a car is challenging in this area due to limited parking; however, I kept my car in a 24/7 garage a couple of blocks down. The service was there was awesome, and I had complete peace of mind. I have a small dog, so we often climbed the hills to Grace Cathedral to enjoy the park. Walking around Union Square, Nob Hill, and Chinatown was fun and full of history and charm. And, I worked in SOMA so my 20 min walk to work made life easy."
