St. Joseph School

I’ve had several children go through RMCS. I wouldn’t have written this same review based on my oldest child’s experience, but after my youngest’s time there, I feel this accurately reflects what we experienced.Over the past few years, we dealt with multiple behavior and bullying issues involving other students. There seemed to be very few meaningful consequences for poor behavior or classroom disruptions. Students were often disrespectful to both teachers and their classmates.Most of the teachers themselves were wonderful, but I often got the impression that they didn’t feel supported. We also saw several excellent teachers leave the school, which was disappointing.After talking with many other parents, I realized our concerns were not unique. I knew several families who, if they had the financial means, chose to move their children to private school because of similar experiences.This last point is not the school’s fault, but it is worth mentioning that hypodermic needles were found on the playground on multiple occasions, and one child was even stuck by one. It was very concerning. They have also had unhoused individuals fornicating in the woods next to the school. It’s unfortunate because at one point I really did feel like this was a great school.

I have two kids at JFK and we love it. The teachers and staff are all so welcoming and caring to all the kids and the school itself is beautiful and very thoughtfully set up thanks to the renovations. They do a great job at tailoring the experience for kids with break out sessions based on what kids need (enrichment, extra support, etc). When my kid wanted more challenging work, the teacher came up with some extra projects that were super fun. Overall we've found it to be a welcoming, responsive, creative place.

this school has left me scared and offended.

Probably an okay school if your child doesn't have a disability and/or isn't gifted. In my family's experience, the school does not support my child with a physical disability and does not challenge them or acknowledge their other gifted areas. If your child has a disability, know that you may need to fight the school at every step of the way. I would recommend not trusting that they are providing support and doing regular check ins with the teacher/school.No parking, let alone for a child and/or parent with a disability (one parallel "handicap" parking space without access to get a chair out, and that a staff member parks in). Had to carry my child down the street to get to and from school too many times.The one bright spot at this school is one of the Kindergarten teachers (Mrs. Blair) who is a gem.

We really enjoyed our time at Edmunds. Its nurturing, cheerful environment and small close knight community are a great combination.
