Read what parents are saying about Pope Elementary SchoolA great place learned a lot and also saw a lot of kids from different back grounds. It was also very welcoming and gives a happy atmosphere and over all has a lot of school pride.
Posted by a community member on 3/19/2020On a scale of 10, with ten being the best and 1 being the worst, I would rate my experience as a 6. Even with all that I am sharing, I will say that the students and their families are amazing. The Dad's club and Fielder Baptist Church make so much effort to help. There are mentors that come in every week and year after year.
Posted by a teacher on 5/24/2018The staff at Pope Elementary are caring and attentive to all of their students and seem to know every child by name, even those not under their direction.
Posted by a parent on 8/22/2016This School is not special education friendly. Total disaster of a school! The principal will fight you until you file tea complaints. Keep your kids away.
Posted by a community member on 9/30/2015This school has the best teachers, but not the best students. In second grade was punch and had 50$ stolen from me. I felt safe most of the times and had fun, i wasn't bullied or teased, I met great friends. Sixth grade is one of my favorite years, i had great teachers and friends. But the boys thought it was cool to get in fights, so every now and then we would have a fight (not me). And most of the new girls would want to get in fights, but my friends and i stayed out of it. The faculty lacked personality, one of the teachers had inappropriate photos on their computer folder. Overall the school has been wonderful!

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school in regards to the teachers and fellow students was so wonderful and we will miss that since we have had to transfer due to a move. The big issue with the school is the principal Mr. Mark Basham. This principal is simply someone that puts on a pretty face and phony attitude and when it comes to actual helpfulness for a parent or setting aside time to discuss an issue or offer advice he’s completely absent in mind and body. It’s sad that such a great school has this kind of leadership in place.Other Review9mo ago - Duff Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNo school is perfect. Teachers today are challenged with navigating an increasingly diverse population. I am a teacher and I know it is a tough job. I have had one child finish their elementary education here and I have another child still attending Duff. Both of my children display regression with regard to STAAR scores. Normally this would not bother me at all. This school instills fear over testing based on my experience. One grade level would not provide my child with individual positive feedback. When I pressed the issue, I found no support from admin and can echo what another parent says regarding administrative support. I sent multiple emails to the principal that were simply ignored. When I copy the higher up, district personnel they finally responded with a generic email. I wanted to love this school so much but I am not able to report many positive interactions. The music teacher is wonderful! His programs are amazing. The front office ladies are great as well. Y family has not had a positive experience with anyone else. This school is run like a prison. My child dropped a pencil out of her reach, asked (whispered) her classmate to hand it to her and then was reprimanded so severely she came home in tears. Admin does not care. They blindly support their teachers. I can appreciate backing your people up but you his school is more on the “good ole boy,” system. If you’re one of the good ole boys, you get the best. If you’re not? Too bad for you. As a teacher myself, I always wondered why special education students needed “positive reinforcement,” as an accommodation. It seems to me, as someone who feels called to teach neurodivergent learners, that positive reinforcement is the norm. This school taught me not all teachers agree. If it’s not in the IEP, they don’t positively reinforce student behavior. Apparently even if it is an accommodation in a students educational plan, they still may not get all that they need despite the myriad of financial resources they have. If you have the option, look elsewhere for an inclusive environment for your child.Parent Review5mo ago - Speer Elementary School
