Read what parents are saying about Portage Central High SchoolI graduated in 2005 unless you are upper or middle class and have no need of special education this school will be great for you well as long as your kid doesn't have issues with socializing. Anything not 'normal' is at best completely ignored here stay away at all costs.
Posted by a community member on 1/14/2015I graduated from the original Portage Central in 1962. In all the years since that there has been a PC, it has been excellent. The teachers were great then and great now. I taught over 30 years so can recognize good from bad.
Posted by a community member on 9/16/2014MY school isn't the best, there are druggies and pot heads in in, freely talking about it and when teachers here, the don't do ANYTHING. So besides that and the fights and bullying that you just have to put up with a any high school, my school does have good musical side to it. If your kids a music person, this is the school for them!
Posted by a student on 4/26/2013Made the 2009 list of Top 500 schools in the nation, and is one of the few public schools on that list. Excellent teaching and counseling staff. Administration not flawless but above average. Nationally recognized Debate, Drama, Soccer programs, one of the only 4 schools in Michigan that offers the prestigious International Baccalaureate Program. Higher graduation rate than nearly every other school in the state. This school truly does ensure a student's success in not only academics, but life in general.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 2 kids are loving going to Haverhill! Starting with the Principle; Mr.Zonts truly loves his job, thr school, and students. He is always very visible and involved with daily activities. He does communication meets every morning, so parents know whats going on. The Teacher are supportive for the students and we have had great experience with all but 1 in 5 years. The PTO, is amazing! They are always planning activities for the students to do and getting Everyone no matter who or where your from involved. Haverhill deserves way higher then a 4 rating!! N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy son is finishing up one year (8th grade) as he attended during Covid. My only regret is we didn’t enroll him sooner. His teachers care deeply for him and the students, and the curriculum is excellent. Because the school is small, scholars are given the benefit of attention. Students are encouraged to excel and their strengths are really highlighted. My son really hit his stride while under the direction of the school’s excellent programming. The principal is at the door every single morning greeting the children. One day this year he wasn’t there. No other school does that. The parent involvement is high. There is a deep sense of community among the children, but also among families. What stands out to me is that people are genuine and authentic. They demonstrate faith, it’s not overwhelming and overdone. I appreciate that. With respect to cost, it is the highest value. The facility is beautiful. The building is very new, as is the equipment. It cost more to have him in daycare as an infant that it costs to give him a high end education now. Money well spent. Highly highly highly recommend.Parent Review2y ago
