St. Michael Lutheran School

Oakland academy seriously needs to be inspected by the department of education. This school is not qualified firstly to have special needs students and some of their facilities like a library is highly questionable. Some unqualified and immature teachers make the situation worse perpetuating racism, harrassment, threatening and daily bullying. The principal Mrs. vd Merwe is the absolute worse, she clearly don't understand her mandate. She must be and advocate and protector of our children but instead fuel the racism, threats , harrassment and bullying to appease her buddy teachers.Students are also instantly expelled for pettiness without fair and proper hearings and or process . So if the principal neglect our children as well as the teacher does that mean our children must fend for themselves. At the end of the day this school is a Penitentiary and our children leave scarred and mentally damaged. This school must be investigated or closed as our children is just business as usual and their rights and persons are being violated to the extreme...This is an absolute KAKISTROCITY of a school and I wish i new it earlier.

GrandParent, With low scores, how can you be given a high star rating score ?

All of the teachers my son had at Angling were for the most part wonderful. The problem I feel is if you have a student that is below average or has any disability. The school is not well equipped to help those students, and from my experience, the leadership is not willing to take the necessary steps to set them up for success. My son has ADD and had a very hard time with executive function and focus but his grades were fairly good. He got his diagnosis in 4th grade and I wanted to have a 504 plan in place. The principal and counselor completely guided me away from doing this. I learned later that they did this not because they had his best interest in mind but it is work for them and they didn’t want to put in the effort. They assured me they would get one in place before he went to middle school which they did not. When I think back to the conversation they made me feel like I was overreacting and it wasn’t needed. I know now that regardless of grades, if your student meets the qualifications, they can and should have a plan in place. It makes me sad and angry that they really cared that little about him because it was extra work for them.

My 2 kids are loving going to Haverhill! Starting with the Principle; Mr.Zonts truly loves his job, thr school, and students. He is always very visible and involved with daily activities. He does communication meets every morning, so parents know whats going on. The Teacher are supportive for the students and we have had great experience with all but 1 in 5 years. The PTO, is amazing! They are always planning activities for the students to do and getting Everyone no matter who or where your from involved. Haverhill deserves way higher then a 4 rating!! Morea like 9/10
