We believe in public education and were so sad to have had this experience where we hoped for so much more.

The students are given great opportunities and resources, the teachers incorporate technology and bring in speakers, the level of parent involvement is terrific, and the students are very kind to one another. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOakland academy seriously needs to be inspected by the department of education. This school is not qualified firstly to have special needs students and some of their facilities like a library is highly questionable. Some unqualified and immature teachers make the situation worse perpetuating racism, harrassment, threatening and daily bullying. The principal Mrs. vd Merwe is the absolute worse, she clearly don't understand her mandate. She must be and advocate and protector of our children but instead fuel the racism, threats , harrassment and bullying to appease her buddy teachers.Students are also instantly expelled for pettiness without fair and proper hearings and or process . So if the principal neglect our children as well as the teacher does that mean our children must fend for themselves. At the end of the day this school is a Penitentiary and our children leave scarred and mentally damaged. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are in our 3rd year with the school. The principal has grown so much and has become an excellent communicator. The teachers are fantastic. My child is supported and challenged in the classroom. I love that my child is receiving a great academic education and an even better social education being that her school is so diverse. 6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy 2 kids are loving going to Haverhill! Starting with the Principle; Mr.Zonts truly loves his job, thr school, and students. He is always very visible and involved with daily activities. He does communication meets every morning, so parents know whats going on. The Teacher are supportive for the students and we have had great experience with all but 1 in 5 years. The PTO, is amazing! They are always planning activities for the students to do and getting Everyone no matter who or where your from involved. Haverhill deserves way higher then a 4 rating!!
