My oldest was in second with Ms. Greening and my youngest was in kindergarten with Ms. Gilliam this year. Both teachers were wonderful! My youngest had some delays before starting school this year, but she is now reading and writing above grade level so I couldn’t be happier. The teachers and students love Principal Gardner too. I am thankful for this school and staff.

Posted by a parent on 4/14/2020I have three children that go to this school. One of the teachers is never there. They have learned nothing new since they have been there. He school is setup nice but the education is horrible. Their main concern is money money money. Thank god my kids have an advantage because they came from a private school. This will definitely be their first and last year here. I'm 5 sec away from transferring them any day now.

I suspect several of the reviews are from the same person, since there were 4 reviews written on the same day last year and in the same format. Nonetheless, this school does not deserve 5 stars, and some of these reviews are absolutely ridiculous. The children at Westwood are safe, and the environment is generally fun. However, the education program is severely lacking. The consistently low test scores should be a glaring indicator of this. Last year, Westwood scored worse than 97% of schools in Louisiana and in the bottom 3 schools in Caddo Parish. There is no consistent reading program, a low functioning PTA, and a poor student-teacher ratio. This school is essentially a public daycare, with a small amount of education.As the other reviews stated, Ms. Ellis has made quite a few changes in the school. Hopefully these changes will eventually start improving student learning, which will definitely improve the quality of our kids' futures. Until then, if you have an option, I strongly suggest sending your child to another school.
Posted by a parent on 6/10/2015This school is beyond amazing. It has been featured on the news over 20 times in less than a year for ALL it does for children and the community. I am beyond blessed my child has the opportunity to attend the Westwood Ranch. I took my child out of a magnet school to enroll them. Everyday I am blessed to be a Westwood parent. Thanks to ALL the hard working deputies.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have history with Southern Hills because, my 6 kids all attended Elementary grades there. Which was last in 2007 when my last child left. Now here in 2023 my grandson first year, I tell you it's only 3 months into school, this school is nothing like I remember. The staff is so fake and rude, they have these substitute Teachers coming in that apparently don't give a hoot about the kids. My kids teacher is never at school, so he always has a sub. The staff talk to the kids so rude its just should not be happening. Parents shouldn't have to worry about their kids while in school. This should be a safe place. I am so disappointed and disgusted, and shame to classify it as my neighborhood school. I would not recommend it. Their needs to be a sweep thru with the staff. And the school needs to be reorganized. Any time a Teacher can put their hands around a kindergarten neck, put kids under chairs for punishment and snatching on kids. And still have a job.
