Eighty-First Street ECE Early Childhood Center is a unique magnet public school located in Caddo Parish that serves a diversity of preschool to kindergarten students in Shreveport, Louisiana. This is a great school for students who are intellectually strong, but may have struggles in the areas of reading, math and writing due to having a diagnosis of autism or other developmentally delayed conditions. This school also offers general education classes that provide a variety of instructional methods to develop students’ knowledge and capabilities. As the motto states, “We play with a Purpose.” Eighty-First Street ECE has an excellent, tenured, diversely experienced principal named Mrs. Deborah Alexander. She leads a staff of highly qualified, caring professionals who strategically assess, place, teach and address the diverse needs of the student population while providing a rigorous, data driven curriculum, wherein the goals of the Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, are systematically addressed, evaluated and reviewed. At Eighty-First Street ECE Center, the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, also known as PBIS, in addition to the Class Dojo application, are utilized to maintain a positive school climate and enhance the learning experience. As a certified, tenured veteran educator with a Master’s degree, I am thrilled to work in this haven of educational growth where both students and adults have opportunities to advance towards their personal goals. It is a pleasure to observe the active involvement of students’ parents in the school’s activities. Many parents are previous students at 81st. Street ECE Center and they highly recommend this school to others. The school has 150 students in grades PreK to Kindergarten, with a student-teacher ratio of either 12-1 for special education classes and 20-1 for general education classes. After graduation, 100% of students from this school go on to attend a public or private K-12 school of their choice. Eighty-First Street ECE Center is a proud recipient of the Caddo Parish Public Schools Gains Campus Award for two consecutive years.

Horrible school. The kids are out of control. They fight everyday. My child was attacked by another student. Beaten until her eyes closed. Do not SEND YOUR KID HERE.

I have 2 kids that go to Westwood. My oldest was in second with Ms. Greening and my youngest was in kindergarten with Ms. Gilliam this year. Both teachers were wonderful! My youngest had some delays before starting school this year, but she is now reading and writing above grade level so I couldn’t be happier. The teachers and students love Principal Gardner too. I am thankful for this school and staff.

Southfield School truly stands above the rest. I have had the distinct joy and privilege of experiencing Southfield both as a former teacher and now as a parent, and I can say with complete confidence that the education it provides is exemplary. Having spent 14 years in the classroom, I have seen firsthand what strong teaching and meaningful learning look like—and Southfield consistently delivers both at the highest level.Academically, Southfield builds a solid foundation that meets students where they are and nurtures their individual strengths. The faculty is intentional about understanding each child’s unique needs, ensuring that students are not only supported but challenged appropriately. There is a deep sense of belonging here—one that makes every child and parent feel valued and at home.For our own family, Southfield is truly a “home away from home.” Each morning, we send our children to school knowing they are not only receiving an outstanding education but are also cared for by teachers who genuinely love them and are deeply invested in their growth. That peace of mind is invaluable, and it speaks volumes about the heart of this remarkable school.

Calvary might be one of the worst schools when it comes to academics. The teachers are not required to have any 4 year college degrees. They do not help students in the class, outside of group work. Instead, they have certificates. They are more focused on religion, sports, and money before academics. I would not recommend this school.
