Read what parents are saying about John M. Sexton Elementary SchoolSexton has a new principal since last year. The previous principal retired. There are good and also bad changes put through this year. A bad change is that the students are no longer grouped by their academic abilities, they are all averaged out per class. This means that the gifted students are bored in their regular class and students that need more explanation are not getting it. I can see that it is much harder for the teacher to teach the students now, because each child is at a different level. The students should not be limited by their academic abilities.
Posted by a parent on 9/21/2013I am frequently outside of the school in the morning. The number one concern at Sexton is the safety of the children. The reason to have children sit prior to 8:15 a.m., is because they are released in groups. This prevents the children from charging the gate. Sexton always puts the children first, I have seen this over and over in the past three years. Our new principal is dedicated to Sexton and its children. Self control is taught at school, but must be re-enforced at home. I have had the privilege to meet many staff members at Sexton and they ALL go over and above my expectations at a parent. Thank you Sexton staff for all you do!

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAfter transferring to Northeast, I've really enjoyed it. I've recently graduated and come from a different school in the county. One of the bigger things you'll notice as a student is how much silent (and loud) racism and unprofessional things happen here. One of the teachers has been said to say the n-word multiple times, and pretty much harassed a student "attempting" to apologize about it. Another teacher, reveals his concealed carry card to students and tells them to "not try him." The school itself is pretty good, but you'll notice a lot more snarkiness, and silent drama. From what I've experienced there's a pretty good range of demographic at the school. It's not always one set group of students in the honors/AP/Dual enrollment classes and most of the teachers seem to try to help the students succeed if they want to. The school is pretty good compared to other ones, but most people don't realize that and take it for granted.Other Review11mo ago - New Heights Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has special needs, she has attended for four years now. She absolutely loves the school and the staff. Her teachers are a great encouragement and the academic program is great. The teachers are truly invested in my daughter’s education and her growth as learners. Adjustments are made as needed to meet the needs of the student. Also teachers are passionate about seeing their students succeed. Education has been a very positive experience for our family. If you want to give your child(ren) a stellar education while they are nurtured to be their best, most confident selves then I encourage you to seek out this school! Thank you!Parent Review2y ago - Lutheran Church Of The Cross Day School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter is only in second grade so I haven't had enough experience to really decide how stringent the academics are. Sadly, if you live in St. Pete there are very few good schools to choose from. There is no sugar coating it, Public schools in the area are flat-out bad. The other two private schools nearby are over $25k/ year. This school is more reasonably priced and from what I understand is better academically than the public schools. I can see a big difference in my daughter's friends who go to better schools in Tampa. The technology, math, and science here seem to be severely lacking compared to highly rated schools in Tampa Bay. I'd overall say this is a step above the public school options though.Parent Review1y ago - Transfiguration Catholic School
