6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageLack of security & concerns of comprehensive learning, my son went off school grounds & was playing poker with his friends at the abandoned gas station near by, they told me they didn't have enough security to patrol the area to make sure students make it back to class. The next week the principal sends out a mass email complaining about the parents not sending their kids to school for health reasons which violates colorado law. You're asking a lot of this community, when in fact you should be helping parents feel more secure about sending them to a safe learning environment that cares about their health regardless if it medical or mental. Yall should be ashamed of yourselves worrying more about your numbers and looking good on paper.Parent Review5mo ago - Slater Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI was extremely disappointed with this school. The quality of the education my child received was what I would consider extremely lacking. Firstly I am one of those parents that does not understand why someone would become a teacher or principal and start having babies. I understand they have the best maternity leave of any job. On the flip side when you work with extremely young children, constant change throughout the year is disruptive to their learning processes. Just a thought that maybe if a job is for maternity leave, they should constantly working with middle or high school kids. While my child was here not only did the principal have maternity leave but so did my child’s kindergarten teacher. That disruption with her teacher created massive issues at home. My kiddo does not take well to constant change. Secondly, I understand the extra precautions for Covid. Every morning I give my child and immunity drop. Not a cough drop but an immunity drop. I have done this since she’s been old enough to have a piece of her candy in her mouth. I get a call from the school 20 minutes after I drop her off saying oh you need to come pick her up because she has a cough drop. I said it was the last of immunity drop and it was not a cough drop and my child is very aware of what they are!!!! She’s in kindergarten she has not had a cough or a fever, for goodness sakes she’s not even had any mucus coming out of her nose. They still made me come pick her up. The only good thing about the school was the after school program at kidsmart. My daughter started her new school being behind, despite her supposedly doing well on the testing here. Really makes a parent start questioning the process. She has been making extremely large learning strides at her new school. I blame Slater for slowing her education and am thankful to her new school for giving her the extra guidance to get her caught up.Parent Review2y ago - Manning Options School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school supports all students and helps me as a student with special needs succeed. Many of the negative reviews are from when the school had a different principal. I have had bad experiences with some teachers but most are thoughtful and expect all students. Although this school has some dumb rules and high goals. I have found that they do a lot to help students succeed.Student Review7mo ago - Creighton Middle School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school sucked. It is the most racist, homeophobic schools ever as of 2024. A kid once stole a water fountain from this school last year, that was pretty funny.Student Review3mo ago - Dennison Elementary School

8/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageUnfortunately All five of my siblings and I had the "opportunity" to go to D'Evelyn. However as many would assume/expect that we were lucky, it was the complete opposite experience. I would never recommend this school to anyone... it is actually HORRIBLE. 4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageIf you care about your child's education, then do not go to this school. No grades, no real guidance, no discipline, no structure and no motivation geared towards actual education. It does not hold kids accountable, does not teach responsibility and does not set kids up for success.Parent Review2mo ago - Jefferson County Open Secondary

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school only works for a very small number of learners. The quality of teachers is really hit or miss. The ideology behind this learning environment is student lead learning. Unfortunately if you have anything other than an outstanding teacher the student is left to fail academically while shouldering the blame for not being self-directed. A few students thrive, unfortunately many are poorly prepared academically for life after high school. The administration is unwilling or unable to fully accept responsibility for the safety of their students during school hours. Drug use, alcohol consumption, and sex on campus does occur at this secondary school which shares a campus with K-6. Do not accept the hype that the community environment is so great that these students respect the rules. I was recently informed that 1/2 of the class in one of my students electives chooses to regularly not attend that class. No attendance is recorded and they are simply unaccounted for during this time. This did not seem problematic to the teacher at all. I'm unsure how this compares to other schools. I was surprised this type of behavior existed, since the number of students that are enrolled at JCOS is so low, and the advisers claim to be deeply invested. The administration's response is that the students are choosing to break the rules and it is not the schools philosophy to police them. There are very few extra curricular activities offered through the school. There is almost no focus on physical education. PE classes that do exist have almost entirely male enrollment. A holistic approach to education is not embraced here. The exceptional outcome that occasionally occurs at this school is promoted as the norm. Please be aware that it is not.Parent Review5y ago - Check out schools near 2508 Balsam Street.
