The Applewild School is an enigma. On one hand, there are very caring and supportive teachers/coaches/staff on campus that genuinely care for the students and overall well-being of their community. They often are thrust into lose-lose situations and expected to not only succeed but to deal with major issues without complaining. The staff are told to bury their complaints, feelings, and concerns in lieu of the company line which often has to do more with administration saving face rather than solving the issues. The administration isolates themselves from the rest of campus and often doesn't show up to activities with the rest of the Applewild community(faculty-student games, theatre productions, etc.) unless there is a financial element involved. Throughout the year, there was mention of the dire financial situation the school faced(almost 1 million in debt) and even went as far as writing parents and staff a letter saying that Senior Admin will not take raises but as they are a non-profit their salaries are public domain and there is a discrepancy between what is being told to the community and what is reality. The students are fantastic and are a joy to being around. It is a shame that they left to suffer with overworked, exhausted, and frustrated staff.
