I am a recent graduate of this school and there is alot to unpack so lets begin. On the outsde this school is great, what they show the parents after hours and at special ceremonies you would think this is the best school ever, when in reality, pre-k3 all the way to kindergarten are in the same class together, 1st-3rd grade are all together 4&5th aswell. When you get to 6th-8th they get seperated, but when it comes to creative arts you could easily have a class with each grade level. This could be okay but each grade requires a certian level of care and teachers cant give that if they have to teach 3 differnt cirruculums to 3 different grades, in the same classroom together, at the same time. This school is awesome for pre-k but once you hit 1st grade it could be a train wreck, or it could be great. 1st-5th grade are just a mess, teachers come and go. Your child could have 1 teacher first grade another half of second then switch then change agin in 3rd, 4th grade seems good until 5th grade its not. It's not a stable enviorment and doesn't benefit the childs education having to adapt to new enviorments every few weeks. And the main reason why? Because TEACHERS CANNOT CONTROL THEIR CLASSROOMS. 6th-8th grade may seem better and they are, but truth is, the middle school program doesn't prepare your child for high school. The workload is non-existent. At traditional schools, kids have homework, and not just a game on the the computer tyoe homework, real work, but not here. The most kids get for math is a IXL here or there. No wonder the math scores are bad. For ELA, kids barely learn to write. Their essays are not good, they don't have the basic skills beeeded to succeed in the rest of their educational career. Your foundation for High school and college is built in middle school, and this isn't a good place to build that foundation. Not to mention, kids are often kept in the same class with the same students for years. After a certain grade kids cant come to the school. Kids need to learn how social skills, you cant do that if you see the same faces for 10 years. So before you send you kid here becouse you dont have to worry about chaning schools and teachers. Really think, is this the enviorment you want your child in. Another Kicker they just changed schools because the facilities were a mess. Now 6th-8th grade are in modulars detached from the building. As a father, I’ve been very impressed with this elementary school and the direction it’s heading.The teachers are dedicated and genuinely care about their students. They take the time to really know each child — recognizing their strengths, supporting their growth, and making sure they feel safe and valued. It’s clear they care about more than just academics; they’re helping shape confident, well-rounded kids.The school promotes an inclusive environment where students feel welcomed and respected. There are also meaningful opportunities beyond the classroom that allow kids to grow, build leadership skills, and explore their interests.Since the current principal stepped in, there’s been noticeable progress. Communication has improved, expectations are clear, and there’s a strong commitment to raising the bar and moving the school forward. It’s reassuring to see leadership that is truly invested.Overall, this is a school community that cares — and that makes a difference.

Indian Queen became the place that reminded me why I fell in love with teaching in the first place. Walking into the building each day felt lighter. The students are not only well behaved, but genuinely eager to learn. It was refreshing and uplifting to be surrounded by teachers who truly enjoy being with their students. There’s a real sense of joy in the classrooms and a culture built on collaboration, support, and learning from one another. You don’t feel alone here—you feel like part of a team.The parents are incredibly supportive and deeply involved in their children’s education, which creates such a strong partnership between home and school. And under Dr. McCall’s thoughtful guidance, the school is run with care, clarity, and heart.Indian Queen didn’t just give me a workplace—it gave me back my passion.

We moved from Orange County in California and we are overwhelmingly pleased with Jefferson Houston. We see our children thriving. The principal knows and greets all students by their first name! The classes are small allowing teachers to give attentive care. The electives are once a week! In California we were lucky if they had P-E or art twice in a month. And the middle school art program is phenomenal. We highly recommend Jefferson Houston.

I was happy with the school in 2020 during the pandemic, a weird time for all of course but the kindergarten teacher did an inedible job with the circumstances. My only reservation before was the principal but now with the new principal and new AP the environment feels refreshed and the enthusiasm is palpable.

Potomac Crescent Waldorf School was the soft and nurturing landing spot my family aimed to find when sending our oldest child to school for the first time five years ago. My two other children have since begun their journey at this nature-based and screen free school as well, and we continue to wholeheartedly believe in the programs it offers. The teachers are dedicated and warm, and are specially trained in Waldorf education.
