NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageEighty-First Street ECE Early Childhood Center is a unique magnet public school located in Caddo Parish that serves a diversity of preschool to kindergarten students in Shreveport, Louisiana. This is a great school for students who are intellectually strong, but may have struggles in the areas of reading, math and writing due to having a diagnosis of autism or other developmentally delayed conditions. This school also offers general education classes that provide a variety of instructional methods to develop students’ knowledge and capabilities. As the motto states, “We play with a Purpose.” Eighty-First Street ECE has an excellent, tenured, diversely experienced principal named Mrs. Deborah Alexander. She leads a staff of highly qualified, caring professionals who strategically assess, place, teach and address the diverse needs of the student population while providing a rigorous, data driven curriculum, wherein the goals of the Individualized Education Plan, or IEP, are systematically addressed, evaluated and reviewed. At Eighty-First Street ECE Center, the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, also known as PBIS, in addition to the Class Dojo application, are utilized to maintain a positive school climate and enhance the learning experience. As a certified, tenured veteran educator with a Master’s degree, I am thrilled to work in this haven of educational growth where both students and adults have opportunities to advance towards their personal goals. It is a pleasure to observe the active involvement of students’ parents in the school’s activities. Many parents are previous students at 81st. Street ECE Center and they highly recommend this school to others. The school has 150 students in grades PreK to Kindergarten, with a student-teacher ratio of either 12-1 for special education classes and 20-1 for general education classes. After graduation, 100% of students from this school go on to attend a public or private K-12 school of their choice. Eighty-First Street ECE Center is a proud recipient of the Caddo Parish Public Schools Gains Campus Award for two consecutive years.Teacher Review1y ago2 Reviews - Fairfield Magnet School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child faces challenges & he’s had the toughest time at University due, to the lack of staff not being educated concerning students with challenges. I was forced to place him at University & told my child had to attend the district school. Every year my child has faced some sort of discrimination due to challenges beyond my child’s control.Parent Review2y ago28 Reviews - Southfield School

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur children currently attend Southfield School. They wake up every morning excited to go to school. They are so happy once we arrive on campus that they want to run inside. We started out in PreK2 and are now in lower school. We love how they focus on development of the child as whole. It is such a happy and welcoming campus everywhere you walk. All of the staff are kind and encouraging. We drive from Texas so our kids can get the wonderful experience and education Southfield School has to offer.Parent Review1mo ago16 Reviews - Calvary Baptist Academy

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have three children at this school. They have been there a few years now. I have two in high school and one in elementary school. We are a military family, so they have transferred from private schools in other states. I wanted them to go to a bigger school, with more diversity, so they could get used to a more realistic environment before going out into the real world. Pros: This is a pretty safe school, comparatively. My kids have all had some run-ins with other kids, but it has been handled mostly well. They have good programs for advancement, like the dual enrollment, honors classes, state rally, honor society, etc. Their work is challenging and seems to teach them mostly what they need to know. Sometimes it is seemingly pointless work, but usually is good. I appreciate their chapels and an environment to learn about God. The staff has been open to feedback and it has been pretty collaborative. The campus is nice.Cons: Like others have said, this school is mostly about rich families, "Christianity," and athletes. All of my kids have played different sports, but it has mostly been about trophies and money. The high schoolers have both had to deal with nasty comments, rude players, and coaches who were less than helpful. What should have been a fun experience they learned from and grew through, turned out to be something they dreaded. Additionally, the kids at this school seem to be very racist, sexist, homophobic, etc. In all the states we have lived in (four in the south), I have NEVER heard kids speak like this. It is a very conservative school that does not really consider anything other than the bible and their preconceived views. This is not helpful in learning or critical thinking. My kids have been frustrated many times while trying to engage in thoughtful dialogue with their teachers or peers. They are basically told to be quiet, or laughed at, since their views do not completely align with the school. Meanwhile, as far as I can tell, there is almost nothing done about the hate speech from the other students. White kids telling black students they need someone to pick their cotton and rampantly using the n word, boys there thinking women should not be able to vote, parents banning their kids from talking to other kids because they might be gay, and on and on and on. I would still not send them to another school, because there are almost no alternatives. For what it is worth, hopefully my little two cents have been helpful.Parent Review1mo ago5 Reviews
