"I’ve lived here for 27 years and it keeps getting better. Berkeley bowl west, city sports gym, ucsf/john Muir clinic, new restaurants, and lovely parks."

"It’s lovely, lots of young families, big park. Close to downtown Berkeley and to San Francisco. Not too snooty. "

"Houses have a lot of character. Not all alike. Walkable restaurant, breweries, cafes. Great public transit to city on AC transit or casual carpool. Some people keep chickens, goats or bees. Nearby public tennis courts and park."

"There are plenty of places to sniff around and enough patches of grass keep my dog occupied. We have great access to both Emeryville and Berkeley Marinas and both are within a 10 minute drive - a big bonus when It comes to great places for me AND my dog!"

"west berkeley is an appealing neighborhood -- largely walkable, with character, lots of amenities nearby. biggest knocks are the cool breeze off the bay, bart isn't nearby and you can't easily access everyday items like milk or toilet paper."

"35 mins door to door to downtown SF via BART from Ashby Station. Easy bike parking and typically car spaces at Ashby if you arrive by 845am"

"The walks one can take through the Berkeley Hills keeps one focused on beauty and inner peace because you are surrounded by the natural world of redwoods, live oak trees hundreds of years old, soaring birds, extraordinary light at sunset, and did I say beauty. Truly amazing weather as well. Best place in country to live well if you can afford it"

"This is a diverse neighborhood, w/families, singles, and older people. It is close to public transportation, a large park (dogs, tennis, ball games, rec center) and an excellent full-service market. Public school 3 blocks away. Lots of community involvement, block parties, etc. Close to a main thoroughfare yet actual street traffic is light."

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been beyond thrilled with the care and education both of our kids have received at Nia House. It's hard for me to know where to begin. My first child is a 2020 baby, and it felt like a huge leap for us to start her in childcare. From the moment I set foot in the school, I couldn't have felt more confident in our decision. Every aspect of Nia House from the physical environment to the way teachers speak to the children is utterly thoughtful. The teachers are deeply knowledgable about development and about helping each unique child find their place in the community. The teachers and staff have also been extremely supportive of my husband and I as parents and have offered guidance and advice when we've run into challenges at home. I feel incredibly lucky to have Nia House as a partner in raising my kids!Parent Review2y ago11 Reviews - Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley

NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe are leaving EB after four years. The school has increased class sizes in the second and third grade (as of 2024-25) and it has become increasingly difficult to justify the price tag. Like some private schools, EB is under-resourced when it comes to supporting children with emotional or academic needs. The result, in our experience, has been a chaotic classroom environment that is sub-optimal for learning. The administration is difficult to deal with. Concerns are met with platitudes. The leadership really feels like a black box. My impression is that building the school's brand and profile as an elite institution are priorities that take precedence over the well-being of current teachers and students. My child experienced stress, anxiety and learning loss during his final year as a third-grader at EB. I really wish I had seen the writing on the wall earlier, but my son and I both are so relieved to be starting a new school next year.Parent Review11mo ago17 Reviews
