"More congested than 10 years ago. Loved here 35 years and traffic is getting worse. Freeways touch Downeys borders "

  • Jenni SH
"Very family oriented. People take walks in the evening. There’s a sense of community. There’s lots of shops, grocery stores, etc. it’s a very pleasant little hidden gem. One thing I wish, that all the little streets had sidewalks. "

  • Jenni SH
"Downey is just a great city to call home. There’s lots of restaurants and shopping centers. There’s at least one farmers market on Lakewood and Firestone and many neighborhoods are great for trick or treating "
  • Armando Gutierrez
"They like it the place it’s beautiful and clam so they don’t main it people are nice and respectful "
  • Mistermnn
"Lots of dog poop on side walks and front yards because lots of dog owners don’t think they have to pick up after there dogs or there are some dog owners in the neighborhood that let their dogs run loose in the neighborhood and there dog poops on neighbors yards and they don’t pick it up. Other than that it’s good. "
  • Herrerafrank00
"Downey has everything you need, good schools, good food, friendly police department, community programs, only downside would be the traffic getting through the city during rush out, residents usually take the back streets."
  • C B
"Traffic in Downey is really bad. Can take 30 minutes to get from North Downey to South Downey. Lakewood and Telegraph are packed. But near freeways and that helps."
  • Teresa
"Apartments state Dog friendly, but state restrictions on weight which makes it hard to find an apartment within a neighborhood you wish to live in. "
  • Monique M.
"Downey is a dog friendly neighborhood. Some people post individual signs to keep dogs from pooping on their lawn but to each their own. "
  • Melodygregorio
"Movie nights, concerts in the park, ride and stride day, lots and lots of classes for adults, seniors, youth, and children etc. "

"I grew up in Downey, and have lived here as an adult away from my childhood home but still enjoy living here. It’s close to Cerritos, Lakewood, Bellflower which I visit for different errands. I can drive 30-40 mins (depending on traffic, time of day, etc) to Huntington Beach or Santa Monica. "
  • Darlena C. J.

"The schools are good and kids are often seen using their bikes up and down alone. Also there are a lot of parks and it’s just a very calm city with pretty quiet people that keep to themselves.
