People are often fast to put a place on blast if they had a bad experience, but don't often take time to share positive experiences. I'm writing this from the standpoint of a parent who had no clue what boarding school was really all about. Everything I knew about boarding school was learned watching Dead Poets Society. Arrived with an open mind and left with the confidence that Cushing Academy was the right school for our daughter. She needed more than our small, rural district could provide, and despite being six hours away, she recognized the opportunity and wanted to embrace the challenge.I tell anyone and everyone that our daughter's experience at Cushing was absolutely life-changing. She arrived on campus as a Junior feeling shy, overwhelmed, and apprehensive. Following graduation, she walked away a strong, confident, and motivated young woman who is excited and beyond ready for college.Everyone at Cushing...the administrators, the teachers, the staff, and the fellow students...all helped her emerge and blossom into a confident young woman. She felt right at home soon after stepping on campus and left with lifelong friendships and diverse connections.From our experience, the students are valued, supported, and celebrated, and we're so grateful that she was given both the opportunity and the encouragement to thrive beyond academics. She was pushed to break through self-imposed boundaries and limits, and it's had a profound impact on her.Cushing gave our daughter an amazing foundation to build upon, and we know she's better prepared for college and life in general because of her time there. Not even one week after graduation, she went back to already visit with friends, and I have no doubt it'll be one of many trips. It's no exaggeration when I say that she walked away with more than a solid diploma, she walked away with a whole new family.
