Brighton Mills

My son started his very first day of school ever here for Kingergarten on a Friday (he was born during Covid and had no daycare/preschool experience). He was so excited the morning we dropped him off (this is a great school system)! When we picked him up that afternoon, he was a totally different child with a broken spirit. The para-pro "screamed" at him when the actual teacher was not present in the room. I got a "laundry list" of things my son did not adapt well to, and was even told that he cried for the "first hour or so" during school. First of all, no one in the educational field should be yelling or "screaming" at a 5 year old for ANY REASON. We are trusting our children with these people, and our children need to feel SAFE and trust these adults. After the first day, my son drew jail bars on a piece of paper and stated the para-pro was going there and we were going to "get rid of her" because she was "not nice." This is any parent's worst nightmare. Contacted the para-pro in two different methods that i know she viewed (never got any response), then the teacher, then the vice-principal, then the principal, then the superintendent at the board of education...never went anywhere. No one took the situation seriously, the staff will back the teachers/para-pro all day long, and was never contacted regarding the issue like we were promised. Ending up withdrawing my child from this school and enrolling him in an accreditedited (free) virtual school program for Kindergarten. Hoping virtual will ease him into an educational routine so he can begin 1st grade in person so he can make friends. Do better for the sake of innocent children!

This is a great school for children. The teachers are wonderful and the principal Dr. Chapman is phenomenal!
