Pacific Beach

We have 2 kids in this school. Despite this school being in a different neighborhood (where we have 2 10/10 elementary schools in our neighborhood), we chose this school without regret. Our kids make great friends, have wonderful teachers, and are learning so much mandarin!! The downside is most of the friends my kids make are living in different neighborhoods which makes play dates more annoying, but otherwise, the experience has been great. I dunno about test scores or what not, but my older son is scoring 2 grades higher than what he’s at, so I’m not concerned about that at all.It bewilders me how poorly the school is shown on these ratings. I’m posting to say that our experience is way better.

This is my fifth year at this school, and I couldn’t be a prouder parent. Kids here don’t just memorize facts; they learn how to think critically, care for the planet, and grow into kind, confident, and compassionate humans.What really sets this school apart is its strong, inclusive community. Families, staff, and students are proud of their diverse backgrounds and perspectives, and that diversity makes the school stronger. Every child is seen, valued, and celebrated for who they are.If you’re looking for a school that nurtures the whole child — academically, creatively, and emotionally — this is it. It’s a special place where education feels personal, joyful, and full of heart.

PBE truly puts students first, and it shows in everything the school does. Students thrive in a culture built around the Leader in Me program, where the belief that all students have genius is not just a slogan but a daily practice. The principal and staff consistently create meaningful leadership opportunities that empower students to take ownership of their learning, their choices, and their growth. What stands out most is the intentional focus on developing student voice and leadership at every grade level. Students are encouraged to set goals, reflect on their progress, and contribute as leaders within their classrooms and school community. Family engagement at PBE is exceptional and among the strongest I have seen. Families are welcomed as true partners in the educational process, and there are frequent opportunities for connection, collaboration, and celebration of student success. Overall, PBE is a school where students are known, valued, and supported to reach their full potential academically, socially, and as leaders.

I’m impressed in every way. It’s a gift to see a public school deliver such an excellent education. IB deserves some credit here.

St Paul's provides an excellent, moral based education that exceeds academically as well. I feel confident sending my children there knowing it is one of the best options available.
