7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child is about to culminate from 5th grade this year and we are so saddened! This was an incredible experience for my child from TK to 5th grade. Each teacher has been caring and gone above and beyond, even in the difficult pandemic year. The curriculum has been engaging, thorough, and the teachers have had the added benefit of seeing their students as people and not as drones meant to memorize rote. The LA's best (afterschool program) staff has been amazing. The campus is beautiful; lots of bright colors and trees and the garden is delightful! My child has participated in a number of beautifully self-motivated and creative student-driven plays, concerts, art projects, ceramics, lego robotics, music programs, and all that an arts program of this size should have to offer. Mrs. Gallo (2nd Grade) is truly the best teacher I've ever come in contact with, and the leadership from Principal Garza is clear and communicative and emphatic. Due to the changing demographics of the neighborhood (*ahem*...gentrification...) I've seen it change from being pretty culturally diverse to having more white families, more affluence; on one hand it's been good because of the influx of parent donations that allows this school to flourish, but I worry about the cultural diversity becoming phased out as lower income families are priced out of the neighborhood. But overall, the staff at this school do genuinely seem to care about the student experience and that's truly hard to find at LAUSD schools now.Parent Review2y ago - Thomas Starr King Middle School

"Echo park is pretty safe and family friendly. Great for young single families. Very diverse community even though that was caused mostly by gentrification. Overall wonderful food and coffee shops walking and driving distance. My small family loves living here. "

"Echo Park might be the last egalitarian neighborhood in LA. Working class, hipsters, artists, professionals, Latinos, Caucasians, Asians, African Americans, Gay, Straight, dog lovers, kids, old, young.. I see all of them every day here. Echo Park is funky, artsy and a little rough around the edges. And what other LA neighborhood has TWO great parks (Echo Park Lake & Elysian Park).."
