3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFor the 2014-15 term, Highland got a new principal. He is incredibly driven and strives to make connections with students, supporting them however possible. His enthusiasm is contagious, and he makes it clear he truly cares about students. While there are surely some teachers who are lacking that same enthusiasm, there are some stellar teachers who work endlessly to educate their students. Highland presents a welcoming environment, filled with diversity. I was hesitant to start attending the school last year, having heard about a negative reputation. I was pleasantly surprised. As a sophomore moving into my second semester, I am faced with nothing but future opportunities, encouragement, and guidance as I move forward. Thank you, Highland, for letting me grow as a person.Student Review9y ago - Van Buren Middle School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy child enjoys this school much more than Sandia Base. He loves that he got to pick some of his own classes and gets to learn guitar. He has witnessed fights already that left children bloody. He has also been bullied already but the principal took care of it as soon as it was brought to his attention. So far this year the school had to be locked down only a couple months into the school year because someone had a gun outside the school. Glad to be leaving this state soon.Parent Review6mo ago - Manzano Mesa Elementary School

"I drive, but have had the unfortunate experience of having my vehicle stolen. This is not something the people of New Mexico are shocked about, the police and my coworkers all said welcome to ABQ when I told them. "

"Sometimes dog owners don’t pick up their dogs mess for whatever reason. Seeing dog droppings isn’t common but unfortunately there’s those few bad lemons that just leave their dogs business behind. Unfortunately another issue is the dog barking that happens often with owners ignoring them all day. Again, not often that it happens but it does. "

"Albuquerque is just a bad place to live. I hope to god I can move to a normal state soon. The schools are 49th of not 50th in the nation, the crime rate rivals Detroit. It’s not a good place to raise a family "
