NAGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter was at Montessori for 12 years, starting with daycare. She blossomed there. Like most children, she had an individual learning style that involved much quicker learning in some areas than others. The individualized approach, along with grouping children together in three grade segments, worked for her in a way that she would not have had access to in a regular school environment. She was allowed to work more slowly in areas that difficult for her, while being gently encouraged to approach them. She was allowed to work more quickly in areas that were easier for her, which gave her a sense of pride and accomplishment. She learned how to organize her time. She learned how to persist. I know there was at least one incident when she was indirectly bullied. I never heard the full story because the school intervened quickly and changes were made that prevented this from happening again. I only learned from another parent, and I believe it involved some written materials. But they protected my daughter. I am eternally grateful to MMS for nurturing of both her intellect and her self-esteem, as well as her character and self discipline. 3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI have been going to McDowell since pre k and its ok. the Montessori part of this school Is pretty good until upper elementary because it was not really needed but we still had to use it. also in upper ell we had to do work but none of that was preparing us for middle school. the middle school is pretty OK but it really sucks when you get in the worst cohort and even though you and your friends always get the work done all the bad kids always make teachers angry and it is taken out on everyone. BEWARE of the Spanish class it really sucks and the teacher can not control any of the classes, they also only give us packets and ixl and expects us to know it without teaching us anything.Student Review2mo ago
