Same praises & same complaints as many other schools. Better than most in the area.

I have a son in attendance at this school and they have been nothing but helpful and supportive of him. He has an IEP, needs special education, OT and speech, plus he attends ABA Therapy in the afternoon which the school has allowed a special schedule for him to attend. He also requires some extra help with bathroom needs as he was born with a form of spina bifida, which the school had accommodated and taken care of for us since he was 4 years old. There is one special education teacher in particular that we love and supports our son with care. We would definitely recommend this school for special education but also for any other child.

My son attended Fairview from K4 through 8th grade, and had an excellent experience, from involved teachers to all specials (art, music, gym and library) provided throughout his time there. Fairview helped him become the curious, well-rounded high school student he is today, fostering a love of piano that he continues to enjoy. Many of the staff who guided him throughout those years are still at Fairview, so if the teachers are remaining, you know this school has something going for it. The school also enjoys support from its neighborhood in the form of neighbors working there, and sending their children there. I count this as another plus.

As a former teacher at this school,I would say to all good families out there, run! Unfortunately, the principal( like many in MPS) has neither the skills nor expertise to do their job. They could never manage a classroom. The admin ,for the most part, is insulated and mostly concerned with keeping those 100K+ jobs. Violence, disrespect, and disruption by students and parents ,is met with: What could you as a teacher have done differently? Or, “ The student is Special Ed and has an IEP. We can’t do anything.” No ownership is ever put on the bad parents or students.

My children were bullied by teachers and staff, my son has autism and has a hard time telling me about his day. I learned he wasnt allowed to read an animal book because it wasnt a chapter book and since he didnt pick one out he was given a chapter book in SPANISH. He asked if he mixed his slime enough but because they weren't supposed to be talking he had to wait until last to pick the color he wanted. My daughter was bullied on a regular basis and the teacher did nothing about it. Both kids developed low self esteem and mental health issues. After 3 years of that I am now homeschooling what they have gone through at this school is by definition discrimination
