Read what parents are saying about Cameron Elementary SchoolMy son started Cameron in Kindergarten. He's finishing 4th grade right now. We both really love the experiences he's had at the school, and all of his teachers have been EXCELLENT. It's a shame the school's rating on this site is as low as it is, because it leaves the false impression that they don't provide a high-quality education for the students, which couldn't be more wrong. The school is also really diverse, so it provides a great environment for students to get to know and become friends with other kids from different ethnicities, countries, and cultures. My guess as to why the test scores aren't higher is because quite a few of the students (and their families) don't speak English as their first language, which might cause some communication and understanding difficulties. But it's certainly not because the teachers are of low quality. They have been friendly, patient, and caring every year so far. And the extracurricular activities organized by the PTA (Back to School night, Open House, International Nights, etc.) are a blast! Go Cobras!!! :)
Posted by a parent on 4/29/2020I've worked all over the county, and I'm not leaving Cameron. I started writing because of how aggressive the comment from 2/13/2020 is. I am a teacher here, not a parent, and these websites are not managed by anyone in the school. For goodness sakes, the principal they have listed is two principals ago! Few teachers even glance at these websites because they are full of confirmation bias. The simple fact is this school rates low because it pins schools against each other by test scores, without regard to student population or mobility (how many students move in/out mid-year). If you want real input, talk to parents in the parent center, come to school events, ask a Cameron teacher questions, read the ACTUAL demographics website provided by the county. Plenty of adults talk about algorithms, period. I'd love to know more about what aspects "need a major revamp" and I hope that parent is sharing their concerns with our PTA, parent liaisons, and administration. Real growth comes from real involvement.
Posted by a teacher on 3/5/2020Clearly the rating dated November 2019 is NOT a parent. What parent talks about algorithms on a website that it believes to somehow do with the low rating of the school?!?! Only a faculty member would post something like that to save face on the simple fact that this school rates low because the quality of education at this school is low! Prior to the school administrators removing the bad reviews, you were able to read what real parents had to say. This school needs a major revamp.
Posted by a parent on 2/13/2020I will never understand the algorithm for this website. Do not let this rating fool you - Cameron Elementary is one of the best Fairfax County public schools in Alexandria. If the bad rating keeps Cameron one of the best kept secrets, then so be it.
Posted by a parent on 11/19/2019We moved to this school from an expensive private school and have found the quality of education at Cameron has FAR exceeded our expectations. The leadership from the administrative staff is outstanding. The teachers really care for each student and their growth, not only with academics but in their personal growth. I'm so grateful we decided to give Cameron a chance.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWorking at Patrick Henry was an awful experience. The principal is a bully. Students are not engaged because the principal demands that all lessons be a specific way. The principal does not follow up on her promises. She has her minions and they keep an eye on people for her. It’s very big brother. Do not send your kids here and don’t teach here. @ACPS do something about this.Teacher Review10mo ago - Clermont Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBurgundy is a remarkable school offering a comprehensive progressive education, supported by caring, engaged, and talented teachers and administrative staff. My son is thriving at BCDS - academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. We are very pleased with our decision to send him there and see significant returns on our investment across all hard and soft childhood development indicators. Burgundy offers much more than an excellent box-checked education; it enriches the childhood and learning experiences of its students. Pedagogy is purposefully tailored to take advantage of the school's natural endowment (25 acres of school campus, excluding the recent addition of the neighboring Burgundy stables purchased in 2022, and over 600 acres at 'the Cove', BCDS's remote learning campus in West Virginia), opportunities for peer learning and collaboration, and learning through play. No education experience is perfect, but I have been impressed by the school's responsiveness when we have raised concerns or leveled complaints to the administration. The school has demonstrated a positive problem-solving attitude, working with my family to proactively address concerns and remedy missteps. My son has some atypical challenges. Burgundy has been extremely accommodating of his needs and facilitates his full participation in the school's robust physical life. My son loves going to school and routinely complains that he doesn't want to leave when we arrive at pickup. The voluminous sand that emanates from his shoes and random bandaids that appear on his body is a testament to outdoor childhood experiences increasingly rare in large metro areas. I look forward to continuing our educational journey with the BCDS community, particularly the offline (no screens) learning facilitated at the Cove - a thread of Burgundy experience and enrichment that deepens with age.Parent Review4mo ago - Browne Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have been at Browne academy for the past 4 years. It has been nothing short of amazing. Our son has grown and thrived in a supportive and challenging environment. He gets special support a few times a week in their guided study program and it has been a game changer for him. It’s helped him with executive function and how he learns best. The teachers are all very committed and the parents are warm and welcoming.Parent Review5mo ago - Montessori School Of Alexandria
