Dunbar Middle School

I dislike so many things about this school. First is teaching. My kids are constantly falling behind academically if they were taught properly since 1st grade this wouldn't be an issue. They have no learning disabilities so the only thing left to look at is the way the teaching is happening. The lack of parent involvement. They go big for grandparents day let the grandparents eat food but for treats with sweets parents can't eat? Y'all need to have more days like "Donuts with dads" for Father's Day because fathers are a big learning step for all children to be successful and "breakfast with moms" for mother's Day. Without parents this school has no support. Lacking so much in this department.School needs to give their teachers a raise or something teachers disciplining kids by taking their MANDATORY snack to school everyday is freaking INSANE

Good school but lots of drugs, and a big division in wave and neighborhood, lots and lots of drugs

My experience at this school has been awful since the beginning. The only one who made the experience go from awful to okay, was Ms. Brightwell and her compassion to what my family has experienced there so far. She actually is a GOOD teacher, but the treatment here both by school and district sadly overshadows all good these teacher do.

This educational institution showcases a regrettable display of racism. It is imperative for us to foster an environment that promotes cultural understanding and inclusivity, rather than perpetuating the harmful practice of segregating individuals based on their skin color. This has undoubtedly been an extremely distressing experience. The conduct of the principal towards me has been highly disappointing, lacking the qualities of a respectable individual. Furthermore, it is disheartening to witness the school's tolerance of bullying among students, fueled by discriminatory attitudes. The collaboration between the school and parents appears to be lacking, which has had a detrimental impact on the quality of education provided.

They aren't capable of dealing with difficult students. Sent a 5 year old to aep for getting into tussle with others. No support from staff. Substitute teacher was the pusher but the whole system fails its students. Kicked him out. First ever 5 year old to attend aep. No time for troubled youth in ccisd.

Wonderful Administrators who are passionate, hard working, motivated and kind. Recently got the Blue Ribbon award for Texas Schools. At this point it is a PK-3rd grade school. PK is only for those who qualify (income, military, homeless). The area nearby is growing rapidly so they took out fourth grade (put in 4/5th middle school, Lobit) but it wouldn’t surprise me if they put 4th back in soon after they finish Lago Mar elementary. The only thing to think about is how long you’ll be in the district and if you want your kids to go to the upper level schools- much lower ratings. Look at the school boundaries before buying a house nearby, you may not be zoned for where you think you will be. They have crazy boundaries in the school district to keep all schools title 1. That being said, Calder is an exceptional school and my kids have thrived there. They have a culture of excellence and warmth.
