Jake Silbernagel Elementary School

I dislike so many things about this school. First is teaching. My kids are constantly falling behind academically if they were taught properly since 1st grade this wouldn't be an issue. They have no learning disabilities so the only thing left to look at is the way the teaching is happening. The lack of parent involvement. They go big for grandparents day let the grandparents eat food but for treats with sweets parents can't eat? Y'all need to have more days like "Donuts with dads" for Father's Day because fathers are a big learning step for all children to be successful and "breakfast with moms" for mother's Day. Without parents this school has no support. Lacking so much in this department.School needs to give their teachers a raise or something teachers disciplining kids by taking their MANDATORY snack to school everyday is freaking INSANE

My experience at this school has been awful since the beginning. The only one who made the experience go from awful to okay, was Ms. Brightwell and her compassion to what my family has experienced there so far. She actually is a GOOD teacher, but the treatment here both by school and district sadly overshadows all good these teacher do.

I have had several children over course some ten years at this school. I feel like with all public education it is a mixed bag. I think many of the teachers are excellent and do a great job but I have seen turnover and loss of better teachers.I general it is well to do suburban school. The school is very tailored for household with stay at home parent or with extremely flexible schedules. Programming including teacher conferences are all done with expectation that you are free all day. Field trips and programs often have more chaperones than kids and programming is always packed. Parents start lining up at 12/1pm for 315 dismissal!The school is not tailored for disadvantaged, struggling or simply a work traditional hours.The education component is ok. Be prepared to teach your child and truly check in frequently with what you know they need to learn. If you rely on the teachers and reports you wlll think you child is fine for a very long time only to learn (often too late) they are behind or struggling in an area.Can not comment on current leadership principal - they are much more out of view and absent in comparison to previous.Finally a special word about the front office. The ladies who work there are difficulty to say the least. They are a bit unfriendly, unevenly apply "rules/standards" which are not official written policy of school or district. They are your primary interaction with the school and really should work on doing better.

They aren't capable of dealing with difficult students. Sent a 5 year old to aep for getting into tussle with others. No support from staff. Substitute teacher was the pusher but the whole system fails its students. Kicked him out. First ever 5 year old to attend aep. No time for troubled youth in ccisd.
