Read what parents are saying about Lake Highlands Elementary SchoolI am both a teacher and mom at this school. My children (currently 4th and 6th grade) have attended the school since they were 3 years old. I have taught 15 out of my 18 years at LHE as well. The school and community is extremely welcoming and supportive. We all understand that the main goal is to educate the whole child. Both my kids have learned academic and social-emotional skills. I am also a PTA member and see first hand how hard our community works to support teachers and students. We do have challenges that have been hard in the past few years (pandemic, discipline, etc), but we work together to ensure our mission and focus doesn't change.
Posted by a parent on 6/13/2022Truly great elementary education for our kids. Our LHE teachers have provided extra support when we needed it for our son who was initially a slow reader. We love that the parents are very involved providing community events like Glo Run, and teacher appreciate breakfast and thank you bags. Our kids walk to school with other neighborhood students, and have bonded with close friends. LHE provides a great academic environment for REACH students, as well as ESL for a diverse number of students. Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat !! Go Lake Highlands!!!
Posted by a parent on 8/22/2018My kids have flourished at LHE. The principal is very attentive to problems, the teachers all care about the children, and the school feels like a big family. Coach Fuller is AMAZING! It has great after school enrichment, such as drama, science labs & karate as well.
Posted by a parent on 12/8/2015My daughter is receiving AMAZING education at LHE. It is so telling when all of the teachers that work there bring their own children to their school. Wouldn't trade this place for anything. Well done LHE! Thanks for being so GREAT!
Posted by a parent on 11/16/2014We had terrible experiences at this school and I am telling the truth! 1. BULLYING: My son was bullied 5 times in less than 6 months. Counselor offered no help after I reached out to her at least twice. At one time when I was volunteering for the classroom teacher, I personally witnessed 2 girls punching a boy against the iron fence, none of the other adults went over to deal with it, and I had to even though the kids were not in my class. 2. ABSENTEEISM: The teacher had at least 6 absences in less than 4 months. 3. PRINCIPAL AND SCHOOL: Before my son was officially enrolled, the principal told the parents that they would not give kids much homework as requested by previous parents. As an educator myself, I have to question this policy. Do they know what they are doing? What kind of school is it if the principal thinks kids should get less or very little homework? How will the kids learn if they don't get practice? 4. DISCRIMINATION AND PREJUDICE: PTA is all white for the years I was there. I was always looked at differently and not greeted because I'm not caucasian. There was this little cliche of white moms who excluded everyone else. It's not a friendly community.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWRE is an aesthetically pleasing school that continues to squeak by on it’s past excellent reputation. Dig deeper you will find average (at best) academics, teachers that openly cater to students of the Principals favorite parents, problematic administrative leadership, and the most attention seeking and atrocious parent community. Parents here make the day-to-day volunteering and donating miserable and the overall parental school experience insufferable for the silent majority. Academically - when you look at the testing data and control for economic status, parent education, and race - there is nothing at all to differentiate this school from any other public school in the district or the state. Do not move to the neighborhood for WRE, as so many do (self included), you’ll find yourself disappointed and considering private school.Parent Review5mo ago - Thurgood Marshall Elementary School

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageNot wild about this school at all. We transferred back to our home school (Hexter) not impressed with the environment. I can’t explain it but it feels low budget and meh. Really wanted to like this school since it is right by our house but not impressed. We are looking for other options.Parent Review2mo ago - Martha Turner Reilly Elementary School

In summary, the experience this year has been discouraging. The school requires a comprehensive restructuring of the staff. While there are exceptions among the faculty, with dedicated and empathetic people, these are the minority.Other Review4w ago - Highland Meadows Elementary School

1/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThankfully Principal Bahena was fired mid school year last year after spring break she was gone. The school under her leadership went from a B average rating under Principal Davis leadership to an F rating 59 out of 100 with Bahena.Lack of experience and unprofessional with low ethics in Stolen Valor claiming Veteran status whilst she had never even completed bootcamp. FYI: High School ROTC does not qualify as VETERAN status. With Bahena at the helm Highland Meadows received the low performance underachieving letter/status allowing any student the opportunity to transfer to other schools to jump ship from that disaster.Parent Review8mo ago - St. John's Episcopal School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe have a Kindergartener at St. John's and have been blown away by our experience. Her teachers are phenomenal, the things they are learning are far ahead of typical kindergarten classrooms, and the families are so wonderful. They take their values very seriously and infuse them into their day-to-day activities. There is a huge emphasis on integrity and kindness over popularity. Each child's unique talents are emphasized and their low student to teacher ratios allow individual attention for each child. Sending our children to St. John's is a privilege and honor!Parent Review5mo ago
