Read what parents are saying about Harwood J High SchoolThis is my sons first year and it has been a nightmare, they care nothing about kids in my opinion. Most are just there to get a paycheck. My son has made many incident reports that has been overlooked and then when he defends himself, they give him ISS and DAEP. They apparently expect kids to just get bullied, let others hit them, and cuss them out without defending themselves. The school systems are so messed up now and days. I don't feel safe sending son to the school but i know i have to for the time being. It's sad you can't even trust the staff with your child anymore.

Amazing school and staff! They love kids and prepare them for their future.
Posted by a principal on 8/1/2023I remember I got shoved down the stairs after lunch. Teachers didn't do jack about it, and got issued a tardy for being late. I got beat up during 7th grade athletics, and was issued 4 days ISS for "getting into a fight," and I was given no proper trial, the only other say I had was that of the kid who put me in that position. There is a complete and utter lack of any form of effective anti-bullying measures or student outreach, as the counselor would only be available 3 days in advance. Despite this, the good majority of the teachers were excellent. Overall, not a great experience.
Posted by a community member on 3/16/2021The way this school handles things is far opposite from perfect. The bullying policy makes no sense. (They don't care if you're being bullied, only if you fight back.) They care more about students test scores and grades than their mental health and wellbeing. The teachers for the most part are great people, very nice and understanding. The dress codes are insane. My daughter got dress-coded because her shirt was "too short", wasted thirty minutes of class time for no legitimate reason. Would not recommend.
Posted by a parent on 3/16/2021Not very good. Unfortunately bullying policies seem to be lip service. Over crowded school with too many kids who are supposed to be role models not really displaying the best behaviors. Education is mediocre at best, teaches kids a slow arduous climb to the middle.

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageBedford Heights is a great school. The teachers care, the administrators are responsive, and the parents are involved. We love the Spanish Immersion program, although we wish that the teachers truly spoke no English to the students and required the students to use Spanish with each other in the classroom, neither of which is the case. We transferred in from a Spanish Immersion school, so perhaps our interpretation of the word “immersion” is different. We also wish there was more physical activity incorporated into the day. One solitary 30 minute recess just is not enough for children to get adequate physical activity, especially when PE class is on a rotation and not every day (and what’s up with that?!). We wish there was no assigned seating at lunch. We wish more kids would walk home from school so our kids weren’t walking by themselves. Remember when all kids walked home?! What happened?!Otherwise, an excellent neighborhood school. Parents in the area should feel fortunate to have the opportunity to send their kids to a school like this.Other Review10mo ago - Bell Manor Elementary School
