Read what parents are saying about Govalle Elementary SchoolGovalle is an excellent place to learn, work and grow!
Posted by a parent on 1/8/2019First and foremost, the state test score data is incorrect. Govalle staff, parents and students worked so diligently to help students raise their academic standardized test scores, even though we understand the focus on tests should never be a school's #1 priority. In fact, Govalle out performed or was on par with all the area local charter schools (East Austin prep, UT Elementary, IDEA, KIPP) , even though Govalle serves 3x as many kiddos with special education needs. In the midst of that kind of pressure, Govalle manages to provide fine arts experiences for all kids, including musical performances and art exhibitions for each grade level, in addition to collaborations with Paramount Theatre and the UT Shakespeare outreach program. Govalle provides trauma-informed care for all students, and includes a junior counselor program. We have a dual-language program pilot for Prek-1st (next year includes 2nd grade) because they believe multilingualism can benefit students in the global economy and as compassionate citizens of the world. Govalle continues to build on STEM educational experiences with Engineering is Elementary curriculum, STEM building challenges, Science Fair and collaborations with the Thinkery. They provide field experiences in both the fine arts and sciences. They have a Dyslexia therapist onsite to provide strategic interventions, as well as a school psychologist available for the children. But most of all Govalle respects families and is an open campus most of the year, allowing parents to walk their children to class, eat lunch with them, and celebrate birthdays at the end of the day.
Posted by a parent on 1/8/2019Our school is awesome!!!! The programs and opportunities offered here are diverse.... Robotics, girlstart, conflict resolution, peace areas in every room, butterfly garden, ACE after school, Americore tutors, peer mediators, No Place For Hate activities, and the list goes on.... The students are engaged and love to come to school! The energy you feel when you walk into Govalle is calm yet energetic. I love teaching at Govalle! This is my ninth year and I hope to be here for many more!

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageFirst two years were wonderful and great improvement on my son, he is above average. But good teachers left. This year in 4th grade he dropped the grades abruptly, first due to the teacher yelling at them all the time and not showing any interest on his improvement, also lack of communication with parents, second because a case of bullying harassment they neglected and caused severe health and mental issues to my kid. I had to go to superintendent to get a solution.Parent Review10mo ago - Blackshear Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePrincipal Moore and his staff do an amazing job. The small size give it a family atmosphere and the admins know all the parents and guardians by name. The school grounds are fabulous with a large area for the kids to play and run around, and the teachers we had really knew my kid and helped him to grow in ways that worked for him. The school students and staff are diverse which I think is rare in Austin, the programming is unique and we loved our time at Campbell. Over our time there they really improved in family engagement as well.Parent Review1y ago - Metz Elementary School

6/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageAs long as the principal Jennifer Stephens is present, send your children to another school. Her toxicity trickles down and impacts students’ daily learning and social emotional well being. She may seem presentable in passing but she is not a thoughtful or kind administrator.Parent Review8mo ago - Zavala Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageTo the principal down to the teacher's and teacher's aid has no concern for the kids at all. when you bring to there attention about your concern for your child they blame the kid ,you guys is so much older and we leaving are kids in you guys hands ,the amount of miss communication and disrespect ,no concern is ridiculous school need to be shut down or retrain the staff . The safety and education of the kids should be way important than what I've seen so far this year.Parent Review7mo ago
