Read what parents are saying about Hand Middle SchoolMy kid went to hand during her 6th grade year (2020-21) she had an amazing experience and she got along with everyone. She always came home with good grades. The school provides good academic skills that truly work. After we moved I realized there not many schools that have the same standards as hand middle. I would definitely recommend this school.
Posted by a parent on 7/29/2022I have had 3 kids go to Hand and it’s been a great experience despite the difficulties of the past 2 years. My son has made principal honor roll twice this year. The teachers communicate if you have questions or concerns. There is so much going on in the word but Hand MS does their best to keep us up to date & informed
Posted by a parent on 3/15/2022The administration has really taken this once great school off a cliff. The new Principal has zero clue how to properly hire & manage staff. She sits in her office, and is all but inaccessible, both to teachers, and parents. Since school has restarted after COVID, she is rarely seen. Teachers make the effort, but aren't supprted by administration, and regularly receive abuse from parents who aren't doing their own job. The school is old, and really needs to be replaced. Systems fail almost daily, and the environment is not conducive to learning. Hand is WAY overcrowded. Nearly 900 kids? Really? The school was built to handle around 500. It's like an old prison. Rundown and overcrowded. These issues can be handled though. All that is needed is EFFECTIVE leadership. The administration needs to be changed on a wholesale level, and the school district needs to stop sitting on their hands. I've had one child go through Hand, and another is nearly finished. Unless changes are made, #3 will be going elsewhere. The ONLY reason I can remotely "recommend" putting your kids through Hand is that it feeds Dreher.
Posted by a parent on 4/25/2021School riddled with problems. Used to be a great school. High turnover of staff. Environment has an overall feeling of intimidation. We left for private school.
Posted by a parent on 3/18/2021The neighborhood is breathtaking and the school building and campus is beautiful and I love that they play classical music in the halls before class starts. Hand Middle has good teachers... unfortunately the students aren't disciplined enough and the class room environment isn't conducive to a good learning environment.

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended Brennen Elementary School as a child from 1995-2000 and it was just amazing as it was then as it is now. Brennen has always been unique in their own way and even as a kid I remember being excited to see what was next on the agenda each day I arrived. My daughter now attends Brennen and absolutely loves it. Even if I offer her a day for a mental break (which I feel everyone needs every once in a while) she'd gladly accept going to school and learning while being surrounded by what I consider a refreshingly diverse environment with teachers and students that she enjoys being around. Mark Shea is an amazing principal and keeps all parents updated on school events via email each week and different fundraisers including family nights. My daughter is currently enrolled in 3rd Grade AAP ELA & Math and has soared over these last two semesters and prepared for 4th grade thanks to her teachers, staff, and myself. I wouldn't want her to be anywhere else and look forward to my son starting K4 in the fall.Other Review10mo ago - A. C. Moore Elementary School

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageA.C. Moore is a downtown gem. Wonderful and caring teachers, involved parents, and a real neighborhood, walk-to-school feel. Both of our children excelled here and have gone on to success in middle school and high school. The small class sizes make it possible for children to truly shine and receive one-on-one attention; additionally, a vibrant after-school program and diverse student body are both "pluses" in today's world. Our children were challenged in the advanced academic program at AC Moore. The media center and student art "galleries" lining the hallways are not to be missed! For those moving to the AC Moore zone (Shandon, Wales Garden, Hollywood/RoseHill, and University Hill), I would encourage you to check out A.C. Moore. The school has many parents who are happy to answer questions and provide more information about what makes AC Moore so special!Parent Review3y ago - South Kilbourne Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is amazing! The nurturing environment is so comforting for my little boy. The admin. works hard to make sure the students and teachers are supported. The teachers are dedicated and really go above and beyond to ensure my son’s needs are met. I cannot recommend Saint Peter’s enough.Parent Review10mo ago
