I was a student at Rosewood Elementary from 2006 to 2009 (1st to 3rd grade). The teachers did not take the time to support me when I needed academic assistance. I got bullied in 3rd grade, and the school did not do anything.

Brockman Elementary is an amazing school. I have two boys and the eldest began as a 4k in 2008. The Montessori philosophy is an amazing way to teach children how to be responsible. There is a framework in place and the children choose their own work within that structure. This creates respectful, self motivated citizens. The teachers are very well qualified. All of them have undergraduate degrees in education and their Montessori certification. Many of them have Master's degrees and National board certification. In my work with the PTO, I have had an opportunity to interact with all of them. I agree with the principal that there are no bad teachers in this school. A previous review stated that this school was not suitable for boys or for children who are not organized. I have a boy with adhd. He is the epitome of disorganized. His lower elementary teacher (1st-3rd grade) worked very closely with us and the school intervention team to make sure he was getting the guidance, structure, and accommodations he needed to be successful. He is now in the 4th grade and doing very well. As you can tell, we love this school!

Brennen excels in every category and testing scores reflect that. The administration and teaching staff are second to none. The PTO is very active and supportive (financially and otherwise). There is a reason everyone is trying to move into the Brennen attendance zone. Ask around.

My kids have been attending Satchel Ford school for the past 3 years. I was a little skeptical about sending my kids to a school in the downtown area. My experience has been absolutely awesome! This has school is great and only getting better. Teachers, staff and principal have been phenomenal!

We love Meadowfield! We live in the surrounding area where a lot of families might choose private school as a better option, but decided to give Meadowfield a try. So glad that we did and have not regretted our decision!

The school as a whole is wonderful. We’ve had the pleasure of our children being taught by some wonderful teachers. The administration is helpful, supportive, and delightful to interact with. Unfortunately, though the community seems to not appericate or respect the gem of a educational institution they have in the neighborhood. Residents litter school grounds with used condoms, broken glass liquor bottles, beer cans, cigarette boxes & butts. Despite being a Richland One school l, South Kilbourne does not seem to get the same budget, attention, or privilege that other desirable Richland District One Schools such as Rosewood Elementary, A.C. Moore Elementary, and Brennan Elementary receive. It’s apparent that there is neglect on the district’s part and it would appear it’s so, due to South Kilbourne having a predominantly/disproportionately black and low income student body compared to the other school within the same zip code (some less than 2 miles away) that are predominately white and have student from higher income households. South Kilbourne lacks some resources/services that other schools with the district have access to. Lack of police presence to control traffic/enforce school speed zone at the beginning and end of a school day is a concern as many students walk home unescorted by an adult & there’s a lack of sidewalks for pedestrians to ensure safety. Attending to the school grounds to keep hazardous materials away from students (ie used condoms, broken glass, etc). Chain link fencing surrounding parts of the school are damaged and pose a safety hazard as animals can get in, children could slip through, and/or the damaged chain link could injure students if the fell into it. South Kilbourne’s playground equipment looks dated & is minimal- there’s a basketball without hoops, but Rosewood Elementary got a new playground & has iron fencing & better maintained grounds. My children really struggle with being outsiders with being the only white/Asian kids-it’s hard to fit in and they are made to feel different and it gets overwhelming for them at time (ie children obsessively touching their hair). There’s bullying that takes place with some children that are modeling the same violence and aggression their parents teach at home.

Currently, I have mixed opinion of Mill Creek Elementary. I’ve talked with other schools in the area to see what they have to offer and how they conduct business. Mill Creek doesn’t have as many programs as some schools, but they also have more/better programs that lesser schools don’t have.Con: At the beginning of the school year, there was some disorganization administration wise. They didn’t put their best foot forward for the first orientation. The lack of organization may have been a fluke, but if other orientations/meetings are as disorganized as the first one, a self-evaluation needs to be conducted because some internal processes are broken. Pro: Mill Creek Elementary seems to have some good incentives for the children to learn. They had a great “Night of Reading” a few months ago where the school taught parents ways of helping their children read. It was very good for parents and they had pizza for the children afterwards. I expected a bigger turnout from parents, but I thought the program was great. I would like to see something like that offered once a month. The school has various reading charts they give out that offer rewards such as free pizza or free USC basketball tickets if a certain number of books are read in a certain time period. They have a treasure box in my son’s class where if you help students or do very good on assignments you get points. Once you get a certain amount of points you can get something from the box. You can also lose points for being bad. It is a very good reward and punishment system to help build character for a child that age.It would be nice to have the school teach a life skills/parenting class for parents of students. That would most likely be too controversial though.

This is the worst school in South Carolina. My grandson was assaulted by an older student and the principal did everything she could to protect the bully. Her leadership is poor and she allows the older students to terrorize the younger ones.

Bradley Elementary was a blessing for my 3 year-old needing Speech Therapy. We loved all his teachers. We knew they worked hard and loved every minute of it. They love their students and take educating them seriously.

We love Caughman. I debated putting my kids on a special assignment to another school because the ratings and reviews for Caughman weren't great. I'm so glad I didn't though. Both my kids are in the Montessori program and it is absolutely fabulous. Please look into the program for your children if you're on the fence. You will not be disappointed. But truthfully, the school as a whole is wonderful. The principal, Mrs. Hall, is so sweet and is right out there every morning and afternoon helping in any way she can. We love Caughman and are proud to be Comets!

I was not at all impressed with the level of education my child was receiveing at Hopkins Elementary. Although some grade levels have really strong teachers, there are definitely some gaps that need to be addressed. My child went from loving school to crying everyday. The administration tries to intimidate the students and parents. I began looking for other school immediately, and as a result, my child has returned to loving school.

The front staff here are the worst, I sat in the front one day waiting on my nephew and they were just sitting there talking about somebody child and the parent. They literally kept going as if I wasn't even sitting there, I can't say the school is bad but the staff ain't hitting on nothing.

This is by far my favorite school my son has attended. He has learned the most here, and they work closely with him. I love the small class sizes and how small the school is as a whole. It is more like a large family. All the adults in the school know each child.

Both my children attend this school. I have an upcoming 4th grader and upcoming 2nd grader. I have never had a problem with this school. The teachers are awesome and love my kids. Im not sure why the ratings are so low. Dr Cohens has always been nice & friendly as well as the teachers and other staff. My kids enjoy attending this school.

If I could give them 0 stars I would. The principal here is not here for the students or the staff and it shows. Until the leadership changes nothing will change.

My family is new to the district but once I met my daughter's teachers and visit the school I knew we were in excellent school. It's small school with a family atmosphere. The teachers and the principal show they care and love the students. Keep up the awesome job y'all are doing at H B Rhame.

The concept of the school is great, however it is lacking great and effective leadership which sadly affects the other areas of the school. The students at that school deserves so much more in terms of differentiated instruction and Special needs students are not catered for as much from the general education teachers. The schools entire focus is general education. The principal seems clueless as to the laws that govern special education and 504s. As a matter of fact the principal seems clueless on a lot of pertinent information, she looks to her staff to inform and educate her on thing she should know. She is almost never present at meetings or always have to run out in the middle of it. Test scores are horrible, only a handful of students seem to do well. Most students are not on grade level, this is refelcted in state testing results. I am glad I took my child from that school, she deserved so much better and is doing awesome at a traditional school. All her needs are being catered to now and I am happy.

My experience(s) at this school are not all that great.. The lack of communication from teacher to parent is awful.. no pe schedules sent home, progress notes/agendas were not sent out until the second week of school to let you know what your child has been working on and I asked to meet with principal since the third day of school and have not spoken to HER yet..
