Read what parents are saying about Annie Burnside Elementary SchoolThis is a great school. The entire staff is awesome. They are always willing to go above and beyond to assist their students!
Posted by a parent on 10/22/2021Very good. They work hard with a sometimes difficult population.
Posted by a parent on 5/14/2018Leadership Day was absolutely wonderful! The students enjoyed the opportunity to show parents and community members how they have become leaders! Our children have really stepped up to the challenge of being school leaders and being able to articulate that to visitors.
Posted by a community member on 4/20/2017I absolutely love the close knit community that Burnside offers; along with compassionate educators and staff it just makes for a better experience. I have two boys who attend Burnside, and they have been completely reactivated since starting school there- by making more efficient choices about their behavior. They are not told how to act, merely show a different way of looking at situations and how they may be able to have more positive attitude about things in the future. I look forward to at least five more years with Dr. Richardson, thank u for being you and showing up like a Roman candle every single day-shooting your rays of Light across the student body... Believing for better, yearning for more, leaving them to just dream. Thank u.
Posted by a community member on 12/28/2016Annie Burnside is an excellent school choice. We were new to the area and their staff were just as welcoming and professional as can "BEE!" I was amazed at their creative artwork throughout the school. It's truly an organized and drama free environment for the students. Their students seemed to be excited to be at school. My child was successful educationally and loved this school. As a parent, I was able to volunteer for a school dance and the staff kept the students in order and actually participated with the students which made it lots of fun, you should have seen the kids facial expressions!!! I sure hope someone from the schoolboard reads this and will give this school special recognition to their faculty and staff members for all their hard work because it truly shows!!!

7/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI attended Brennen Elementary School as a child from 1995-2000 and it was just amazing as it was then as it is now. Brennen has always been unique in their own way and even as a kid I remember being excited to see what was next on the agenda each day I arrived. My daughter now attends Brennen and absolutely loves it. Even if I offer her a day for a mental break (which I feel everyone needs every once in a while) she'd gladly accept going to school and learning while being surrounded by what I consider a refreshingly diverse environment with teachers and students that she enjoys being around. Mark Shea is an amazing principal and keeps all parents updated on school events via email each week and different fundraisers including family nights. My daughter is currently enrolled in 3rd Grade AAP ELA & Math and has soared over these last two semesters and prepared for 4th grade thanks to her teachers, staff, and myself. I wouldn't want her to be anywhere else and look forward to my son starting K4 in the fall.Other Review10mo ago - Mill Creek Elementary School

3/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageCurrently, I have mixed opinion of Mill Creek Elementary. I’ve talked with other schools in the area to see what they have to offer and how they conduct business. Mill Creek doesn’t have as many programs as some schools, but they also have more/better programs that lesser schools don’t have.Con: At the beginning of the school year, there was some disorganization administration wise. They didn’t put their best foot forward for the first orientation. The lack of organization may have been a fluke, but if other orientations/meetings are as disorganized as the first one, a self-evaluation needs to be conducted because some internal processes are broken. Pro: Mill Creek Elementary seems to have some good incentives for the children to learn. They had a great “Night of Reading” a few months ago where the school taught parents ways of helping their children read. It was very good for parents and they had pizza for the children afterwards. I expected a bigger turnout from parents, but I thought the program was great. I would like to see something like that offered once a month. The school has various reading charts they give out that offer rewards such as free pizza or free USC basketball tickets if a certain number of books are read in a certain time period. They have a treasure box in my son’s class where if you help students or do very good on assignments you get points. Once you get a certain amount of points you can get something from the box. You can also lose points for being bad. It is a very good reward and punishment system to help build character for a child that age.It would be nice to have the school teach a life skills/parenting class for parents of students. That would most likely be too controversial though.Parent Review5y ago - Caughman Road Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter has thrived at Meadowfield ES. Her reading & math skills have improved tremendously and she adores her teachers. The teachers have been great and I know it’s been a tough 2 years for everyone but they are doing such a good job!Parent Review2y ago - Asbury Kindergarten & Preschool

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageOur daughter has attended Asbury for both Pre-K and Kindergarten. I could not be more pleased with our decision to enroll her. What a relief it is to know she is in a loving, safe, supportive and challenging learning environment every day. The directors, teachers, and staff have made this program exceptional. We are so blessed to have found such a wonderful place. THANK YOU, ASBURY!!!Parent Review9y ago - Hammond School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AveragePre-K year was great for my child....loved the teachers.....they were pleasant and as I stated invested into given their all into the children. When my child entered into Kindergarten....all of that changed. The beginning of the year started off great, then every little thing that my child did was being called out. I overlooked as much as I could as parent but when a child starts to question at 5 years old "why doesn't this child get sent to office when we both are doing the same thing" or your child comes home and says that he has to walk around with his hands in his pockets because this is what he was told by the school guidance counselor and lead teacher is a serious problem. Having a child apologize to another student because the student states that she felt intimidated because my child was looking at her (what 5 year old says that....those are the words put into a child's mouth by an adult) she will not be successful as adult when it's time for her to complete interviews nor will she have any public speaking strengths. Having a child write apology letters for his wrist accidently overlapping with another students wrist, writing apology letters for a lunch box accidently grazing against students while they are in a line.....these incidents shows that this school is setting these children up for complete failure when they enter into adulthood. There is no life skills being taught and these children are being programed with the attitude of entitlement.Being told by an administrator "because of your child size we feel the need to protect him". What are you protecting him from again??? (That question was never answered. This school was complete disappointment and I expected so much more for them.Parent Review4y ago - Thomas Sumter Academy

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe faculty and staff are not only professional but also very personable. They are warm, welcoming and very approachable, which was important for us. Everyday is a new adventure for my son and he actually enjoys going to school! He has learned so much since school started and I've seen remarkable improvement academically and his confidence has soared! We love the Thomas Sumter Academy Columbia family and plan to re-enroll every year!Other Review7y ago - Pierce Terrace Elementary School

I lived at Fort Jackson for 3 years I'm not understanding why no one contacted me about (which they still haven't). I have PCS'd and It blows my mind you would send someone a collection notice of almost 600.00 with no prior bills phone calls letters etc. I am so freaking hot right now you will be getting a call from me on Monday! I work everyday there is no way I would let any of my bills get to the point its in collection shame on you guys for such communication and underhandedness.Parent Review7y ago
