Read what parents are saying about Monroe Elementary SchoolWe are kind of suspicious enrolling at James Monroe Elementary at first after reading some reviews. But after our daughter attended here for 6 years from Pre K thru 4th grade, there no one single bully for our daughter, and she has learnt a lot from all the teachers, therefore all we have to say that we were very satisfied, very thankful, and very grateful for your moral guidance, caring, but most importantly you all have made a big difference in children’s lives every day from Mr. Eric Meador (Principal), Mrs. Kandy Bishop (Principal), Mr. Edwards (assistant Principal) to Mrs. Moad (Pre K teacher), Ms. Candace (Mrs. Moad's assistant teacher), Mrs. Rivera (Kindergarten), Ms. Donker (1st grade), Ms. Harrison (2nd grade), Ms. Varnell (3rd grade), Ms. Davis-Gordon (4th grade), Mrs. Buck (PE teacher), Ms. Ann Labay (Art teacher), Ms. Rosenberg (Gifted and Talented teacher), Ms. Wigger (Music teacher), Mr Snow (Music teacher replacement), and all the staff. Thank you thank you!!
Posted by a parent on 5/18/2022My daughter attended pre-k and kindergarten at Monroe. I have been very happy with her teachers, as with all the teachers in those grades. She has gained confidence and a joy for learning. She loves the special classes; art, music, violin, etc.
Posted by a parent on 4/6/2016The "chaos" of the school reported below was due to the full remodel going on that is now complete. Everyone is enjoying the new gym, library, and computer room. The school is serving our neighborhood well as well as deaf and blind students from around the metro. There are many factors regarding the lower test scores and and state rating which do not give an accurate picture of what is going on inside the classrooms. Despite the demographics of the area having some students who do not perform well on the tests for a variety of reasons, there are plenty who are doing just fine and excelling enough to gain acceptance in to the surrounding academic charter schools for middle school. With parental support any student can get a good elementary education here.
Posted by a parent on 3/24/2015A special education child (3 yrs old) walked out of the school building unnoticed and unsupervised, was missing for almost a half hour only to be found by a complete stranger. I'm not feeling overwhelmingly secure about this school whatsoever or their ability to ensure the safety of any of our children.
Posted by a parent on 5/7/2014When you walk through Monroe it feels like chaos. The classes are loud and teachers are yelling at the kids and it doesn't seem like a loving place.

5/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe school leaders are dishonest and do not make sure students have the best teachers. There is bullying that is never taken care of. THey only try to hide what is wrong with the school instead of fixing it.Parent Review5y ago - Sequoyah Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThis school is terrible. From the minute you walk in the door the secretary is rude, loud, and confrontational. Most of the teachers are tired, bitter, and angry. Non teaching staff is just as awful. Test scores are terrible every year. No surprise that this school received an "F" rating from the state.Other Review6y ago - Kirkland Elementary School

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy daughter's year was terrible. She did the same boring apps daily with little to no student or teacher interaction. She was taught one lesson this entire school year. We even switched teachers because the first one taught nothing, my daughter never even 'met' her. The new teacher just directed kids to IXL. This is the type of experience that makes kids dislike learning and school in general. I would not recommend epic.Parent Review11mo ago
