Number 4 Middle School

Currently, my son is in the Pre-K 4 class at PS 3, and we are very satisfied with the facility itself, school staff, learning process, and teachers’ approach. I would definitely recommend the school to others.

Generally we were happy at this school for the 3 years we attended. However, the school’s mostly computer based assignments were really problematic in my view. Likely a JCPS-wide issue. Most of the teachers we had were great, bar one who generally just seemed checked out and done with teaching. Hands off, kids graded their own work. 504s are only followed when parents pressure the school. The principal is ok, perhaps a bit ineffective. The community is fantastic, and the PTO is really involved.

Out of the blue they came up with a new class room and randomly 'assigned' students from various Kindergarten class rooms to this new room with a highly inexperienced teacher (who has never previously handled Kindergarten) and told us only 2 days ahead! This new class room is smaller, no windows, no kids toilet closeby. no explanation provided as to why they had to do this middle of the school season! Agreed students-teacher ratio is high, but the older experienced teachers are really capable of handling this! Caused significant emotional and mental stress to our child and us, especially as our child had huge positive influence by the previous teacher! I hope they will do something about this and revert the change.

This school is incompetent and doesn’t take mental health seriously. They also extremely don’t accommodate students with disabilities even though they claim they do. Specific teachers have been hired and talk bad about other students in inappropriate ways in-front of other students.

My daughter has attended since the FAA opened in 2013, and she absolutely loves her school. I have gotten to know personally the very approachable, dynamic, and competent management team. The 3 sections K/Pre-K, Elementary and Middle School are equally strong and provide children with a top-notch education with a level of cultural exposure and fully bilingual setting you will not find elsewhere. Why should you consider this school? For a French family it is a no-brainer. Half of the teachers come from France bringing with them the culture and teaching philosophy. The level is significantly above public schools in France. Even for French parents settled permanently in the US, why deny your child the chance to be completely fluent and be able to communicate in French with grand-parents back home?For American families, the English program is very rigorous, with advanced materials, and children are at no disadvantage vs those in the best private schools. 8th graders have gone on to some of the best high-schools in NY/NJ. As a bonus you will enjoy being connected with the international community of the FAA. And yes your child will be bilingual.
