Read what parents are saying about Sternberger Elementary Schoolsternberger elementary is owesome. My son joined the school begenning of year in 5th grade, teachers are wonderful and work hard with the relatively big classes they have. Coordination and team work between parents and teachers help to push the students beyond standard grades. The Principal has set up a homely environment that everyone feels like part of a family and gets their fair share. My son is doing well in the school and at the PT conference, you get accurate information on child's progress and you get an opportunity to team up with the teacher that there is a continuation of systems set for the child, at home and school . I love the efficiency in interdepartmental communication, this includes cafeteria, PE, counselling, wow, amazing. Thank you to all volunteers, you rock. Proud mom
Posted by a parent on 4/2/2014My son has been at Sternberger Elementary since Kindergarten. He's in Third Grade now. I feel very comfortable about the school. I think it is because it is not a gigantic school with tons of children. Its moderate size makes me think that the children probably get more attention than those at over-crowded schools. Aesthetically, I love it. It is an old school, but it is gorgeous due to the setting. Mature trees are great, as someone mentioned. My son says "We have two playgrounds!" When asked what could be better, he said he would like swings at both playgrounds. He has had two excellent teachers, one that talks behind your back, and one that teaches in a more traditional manner. Teacher reviews are very subjective, naturally. I don't think his teachers would be any better or worse elsewhere. I expect, if anything, that they are a bit better here because of the size and atmosphere. The principal is wonderful. The staff are friendly. The teachers are outgoing at open houses, greeting you instead of waiting, so that you can meet them more easily. Everyone is friendly when you pass them in the halls. Nice place for your child. Safe neighborhood. Convenient location.
Posted by a parent on 6/8/2012Sternberger is an excellent school. Both of my sons attend this school, and the eldest has attended K through 5 here. There are not enough wonderful things I can say about this school to do it justice. Over the last 6 years, we have only experienced positive things. The Teachers and the Principal are caring, involved, and make it their goal to help all of the children succeed to their highest potential. If you view the report card on the school's website, it will be reflected. I have enjoyed my children being part of the Sternberger family. It is a small elementary school, compared to some. Which, this gives the kids more opportunity to get to know one another. We will truly miss this wonderful school when it is time to move on to middle school. I could not have asked for a better elementary school for my children to attend.

4/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe love this school! The community is so warm and involved in the school. Great teachers on staff who truly care about the kids. My daughter not only learns math and literacy, but also social and emotional maturity and kindness for others. The test scores do not say everything about a school environment.Parent Review1y ago - John Van Lindley Elementary School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe preschool program is terrible & the admin does not care! These things happened in just 8 days of my child being there. I was told by 3 different staff members that would be able to stay with my 3 year old on his first day & get him acclimated because he has some attachment & sensory issues. On the 1st day of school they would not let me come in and I had to hand my child off to the teacher & leave. I then got an email stating that no parents are allowed on the playground or inside the classroom at drop off or pick up! Teachers never greeted me when i arrived. I consistently saw all 4 teachers in one spot on the playground, talking to each other, not supervising or playing with kids. When I asked about my son's day, they replied with only negative things or general statements like "it was a good day". When they told us that hand foot & mouth was going around the class, I asked how do they go about washing the toys with soap & water and disinfecting them, admin told me their teachers dont wash their toys because they dont have time. I finally see my child's classroom & its disgusting. Grime, food & dirt on toys, chairs, tables, & surfaces. Hazardous chemicals are kept where children can reach them. The teacher said my son had trouble opening his lunch & spilled it all on the floor. Said they dont have extra food for children so, he didnt eat lunch that day. He was STARVING when I picked up. My son had a big scrape on his knee that bled. I asked about it & he said he fell on the sidewalk. I asked the teacher & she said "I don't know". Didnt ask the 3 other teachers who were on the playground if they saw anything, just "I don't know, he didnt cry, so i dont know". Kids spend the whole day outside where they play by themselves & teachers socialize with eachother. They took my 3yr old on a bus, a mile away from campus & did not tell me! I went to admin with my concerns & they made excuses for each issue & offered no resolution & showed no interest in investigating. I emailed the head of school, told her I was taking my child out (yes and lose $12,100) & told her why I was leaving. I did not get an email back. I left her messages on the phone, no call back. Ive been a pre-k teacher for 18 yrs & this is one of the worst programs Ive seen. The staff put on a facade that they are a great school where kids can thrive and grow but they are not! If you currently have your child here, please ask more questions & pay close attention, you will easily see for yourself!Parent Review6mo ago - St. Pius X Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageThe main focus at St. Pius is on the Catholic religion and not academics. If your child is not Catholic they cannot read from the Bible during Mass or participate in communion. My child was behind in math. Most students from St. Pius need to have a math tutor if they go on to attend a public middle school or high school. They are very focuses on handwriting. There are a lot of crafts and preschool like activities that come home in the take-home folders. However, this is not a lot of academic evidence of what is being done in the classroom. There is a lot of hands-on learning and the younger children receive two recesses a day. However, the strict dress code at St. Pius is unbelievable-belts, button shirts for mass, no Comet hoodies, etc. The students are also strongly discouraged from going to the bathroom during Mass (which is usually an hour). The learning support at St. Pius is not adequate. The learning support teachers will place students on an IEP on a computer program for math or reading for fifteen minutes! That is not an effective form of learning intervention. I would not send a child here who has a learning disability such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, Autism, etc.Parent Review1y ago - Our Lady Of Grace Catholic School

N/AGreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageI'm so grateful for B'nai Shalom; a gem in the Greensboro community. My child has grown SO much much in her time at B'nai due to the thoughtfulness, creativity, and nurturing environment she is in each day. Parents and staff partner together beautifully, and I've found teachers always have gone above and beyond to meet a child's needs. I feel grateful for this community, and for the ability to watch my child flourish in it!Parent Review1y ago
