Read what parents are saying about Moreland Art/Health Science MagnetI have been so impressed with Moreland Elementary for my kids. The teachers and staff go above and beyond to create a welcoming environment and bring unique experiences to the kids. The ARTS curriculum and residency programming is very sweet. There are many fun, free family events to participate in through the year. A lovely community!
Posted by a parent on 11/18/2023Moreland has BY FAR exceeded my expectations as a great school. It rates as 1/10 but I do not agree. Teachers are patient, nurturing and kind. They invite and encourage family participation in the educational process. They collaborate with MIA and the Children's Theater educational programs. My daughter is reading at a 2nd grade level in first grade. She gets positive feedback from her teachers and they encourage her leadership. She has grown both in character and academically in arts, science, reading and math. The teachers make us feel welcome and appreciated. Moreland also utilizes Dodge Nature Center to teach farm education and science. Lastly and most importantly to our family is the astounding diversity of many cultures and the celebration of each cultural background. I think living in a global society, it important that we embrace each other's gifts and cultures and Moreland does an astounding job at this. I highly recommend this school. Because Moreland focuses on community ownership and building individual child's strengths through arts based education, I believe this model is innovative and deserves at least an 8/10.
Posted by a parent on 2/5/2015QUESTION: What is Moreland Elementary's Plan for emergency? They have none. There is NO security and the doors are kept unlocked. I pick up my child and the teachers do not even look to see who the child is going with. I could have a restraining order. What is your plan??? None until it is too late?

9/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageWe moved from another district to attend this school, and it was well worth it. Our child is thriving in kindergarten. The kindergarten teacher is fantastic and provides weekly updates about classroom activities. The school curriculum is centered on kindness and emotional health, which in turn creates a stable, supportive, environment for children to learn. The class size is small, so all the kids get enough individualized attention. The kids are reading, writing, and even creating their own stories! A counselor gives regular lessons on feelings, eg “what is empathy”. There are many other supportive services for specific student needs. (For example, one mom shared with me that she is very pleased with the many services her kid receives to address autism.). The students get lots of time outside to enjoy the beautiful wooded playground. My child’s classroom is small but diverse—economically, linguistically, and racially. We have received lots of support from other families who have been in the district a while and know how things operate. I have found all staff, most notably the principal and our child’s classroom teacher, to be extremely responsive. They answer all of my questions quickly and thoroughly. The school uses a restorative Justice model to address misbehavior—although it is rarely needed. Most importantly, our child is happy and secure. She wants to go to school every day. She comes home excited to share what she has learned. She is truly thriving, and we are so grateful to all the staff at Somerset.Parent Review1y ago - Cherokee Heights Elementary School

2/10GreatSchools RatingParent Rating AverageMy experience here has been nothing but negative. They did not do anything for my child being bullied. They don't let you know, and they have not notified me in the past. The principal is hard to get a hold of. Pick up is difficult. All it has to offer is a pool, and free Ipad. The children here swear, and cuss, pick on other children and there's nothing but a blind eye turned to it. The teacher he had did not push him to learn. They're given worksheets thats it.Parent Review1y ago - St Joseph's School
