West Utica Elementary School

I cannot say enough good things about this school. My 5th grader was a mid-year transfer to this school. He transferred with an active IEP, not only did he not miss any services, but his IEP meeting and transition have been seamless. His entire time, his mainstream teacher, his special ed teacher, his therapists and social worker all KNOW my son and have a plan to get him to his goals. During his IEP meeting, my concerns were heard and validated, my suggestions were implemented without question. His teacher is amazing with communication daily. We are just starting the process of transitioning to West Utica for my son who will be in kindergarten next year. He also has an IEP and extensive medical needs. Before he is even a student there, the admin and kinder team are working to make this transition seamless and ensure his needs are all met well before the next school year commences. I am confident that my boys are not only SAFE in this school, but are being well cared for. I am also confident that this happens because of the leadership of Principal Woods.

I cannot say enough great words about the principle, teachers and staff..I have kids in 4th and pre k and we LOVE WEST UTICA..very caring people .Kathy in the office is awesome also! This school cares and it shows..Thank you for all you do for the kids and parents!! You are appreciated!

My daughter attends first grade at West Utica Elementary School and we have had a wonderful experience dealing with both the principal and teaching staff, which has been especially comforting and reassuring during the pandemic. The principal, Dr. Woods, has gone above and beyond to ensure my daughter had a smooth transition from remote kindergarten to in-person learning. She was available to talk through the transition and even stood outside at drop off to ensure the kids got inside and helped get my daughter out of her car seat while I had another child in the car. Both my daughter’s kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Smoots, and first grade teacher, Mrs. Fortier, are fantastic educators and have been so pleasant and easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend this school to anyone considering an elementary in the area.
